It's not just fear of war either, it seems that since 9/11 there is more and more crap on the news like "Police are determined to arrest the suspect so that YOU don't get raped and beated in your own home". It pissed me off that virtually all news is so negative, and they say in one breath "All the troops in Iraq had a really nice Thanksgiving with lots of turkey" and in the next mention that 2 marines died and if we're lucky "Oh by the way 20 Iraqis died in a car bomb attack".

Don't they get it? You know what, there was a web site that someone sent me a link to about a year ago, comparing Bush to Hitler and I thought, "Yeah, he's an asshole, but that's just over the top". The irony is that Hitler did exactly the same thing and convinced the German people that they were constantly in danger from terrorist attacks, and pumped them full of news about how great the German army was doing in invading Czechoslovakia and Austia to free them from something or another. At the same time he passed his own laws allowing anyone to have their home searched or to be arrested on suspicion of terrorism, exactly the same way as the Patriot Act.

That to me is the most insulting thing that Bush has done to America by calling it the Patriot Act. It's like he's using the patriotism of American to shame them against saying anything derogatory against it, even though it walks all over their constitutional rights. Man it sucks, and it's going to suck for another 4 years now...

Why don't we just restrict the civil rights of all the people who think that way? I mean, in my book, they're a bigger threat to our nation's freedom...

That's the problem with teaching people that if you don't believe in the holy trinity of Democracy, Capitalism and Christianity then your country is Evil.

I wish that someone would sit down with Bush as get him to read the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, as he obviously has no knowledge of any of them.

Bush and Rice seem to be determined to tell the world how evil various countries are, and they keep putting the emphasis on bringing Democracy to the people of those countries.

What a pair of b*llshitters!

OK, I know I'm going to sound like a conspiracy freak, but does anyone else think something bigger is goin on right now? England just bought something like 600 new helicopters, Canada is increasing their military equipment & # of soldiers, etc. I realise that these could be for iraq, but thats not the feeling I'm getting. Am I just paranoid, or does anyone else sense that there is a larger plan?

I can't remember where I was reading it, but there was an article somewhere about how much revenue wars provide for arms manufacturers, and how peacetime could be disastrous for them.

The US is the biggest arms manufacturer in the world, and countries like Britain are way up there too. The article pointed out that keeping an army in peacetime wasn't a viable thing, so if you wanted to keep a large army you had to go to war from time to time in order to keep it, and the countries best suited to that were the ones where arms manufacture was a significant proportion of your GDP.

I don't know about england, but I wouldn't freak out about canada increasing our military spending. Replacing our equipment that leaks and catches fire with new equipment that only catches fire still doesn't make us a big threat to anyone.

True enough, I'm just scared that N Korea is next on the hit list.

Rice made quite a big deal about Iran in her speech, so I'm scared that Iran will be next. The US will be so hated around the world if that happens. We are led by a president that is such a freakin evil F*CKTARD!

I think Mecca is in Saudi Arabia. Still, attacking any islamic country in the middle east after the debacle of Iraq is incredibly stupid!!!

I found out over the weekend that one of the Marines that was killed in last week's helicopter crash graduated from my high school. He was 10 years younger than me so I didn't know him of course, but it brings it kind of close to home.
