Okay, inspired by the "boob tube confessions" thread in eye candy ... confess your crushes on fictional characters (TV, movie, books) past and present! (feel free to include celebrity crushes as well ... since you don't know anything about them other than what you read in magazines, they're as good as fictional to you, right?)

Currently, I've got a severe Spike (Buffy) fixation that has gotten so bad that every time he appears in an episode, I'll actually emit a little squeal of happiness (and I am normally not a squealy sort of girl). (I am counting the hours till tomorrow night's Spike-fest).

Recent past crushes: Wolverine (hmm, Wolverine, Spike? I think I have bad boy issues here); Steve Malkmus of Pavement; Ricky Fitts (American Beauty); Oz (Buffy)

Fictional crush in perpetuity:
Lloyd Dobler

I've apparently got a thing for imaginary sword fighters with ponytails. Highlander from the tv show. Lan from that god-awful evil interminable Robert Jordan "Wheel of Time" series.

Also every guy I've ever seen play a musical instrument at all well. It's a little creepy. It's like I've got a guitar=greek god connection formed somewhere in my brain. Saxophone.. mrowr! And god help me through my life if they can sing bass..

I used to swoon over Paul Atreides, but I think now that that would be one incredibly neurotic lover. Lazarus Long. I just can't resist a fascist 50s sci-fi hero. The robots from all those Isaac Asimov books.

I totally agree with you on Wolverine. Mrowr.

Now, to convince my boyfriend to grow a ponytail..

My current pretend TV boyfriends include Berg from Two Guys and a Girl, Nick from Freaks and Geeks (though I have a soft spot for Daniel and Sam too) and Pacey from Dawson's Creek -- they're all sort of cut from the same cloth: big, goofy and (to me at least) pretty darn hot.
Ryan O'Reilly from Oz. Ooh. I'm basically in love with that character. I dream of going to jail! Living in NY, I was able to get myself into the nightclub hosting the actor's birthday party and even dance with him. He was dressed down, so it was like dancing with the character. Sick.
My big fictional rock star crush was the lead singer of EMF. Whoa, it was major. Since then, I make it a point to not have a big crush on a musician until I know him really well, thereby making it as self-torturous as possible, yay!

yeefan, you should know how dangerous a thread like this is... i hereby proclaim that i have no control over how long this post may be, or over how many times a day i am adding more posts. also, i absolutely have bad-boy issues.

okay, having said that...
wolverine!!

wes bentley (his ricky fitts was so much like my husband that i prefer to have the crush on wes himself)

fox mulder

james hetfield from metallica

batman (print, animated, live-action... whatever. the only one i can't get with is the val kilmer batman. eek)

ian mckaye from fugazi

gabriel byrne

aidan gallagher (from this irish trilogy I'm embarrassed to have read-- but they were astonishingly entertaining-- by nora roberts)

rhett butler (in the book)

clark gable

captain crewe in _a little princess_

nigel tufnel from spinal tap-- "there's nothing wrong with being sexy!"

the six-fingered man in the movie version of "the princess bride"

wesley in the book _the princess bride_

okay, christopher guest too

doyle from the first season of Angel (he kissed me on the cheek at my bachelorette party! Um, glenn quinn, that is, not the actual character. sooo lovely.)

Okay, fine, glenn quinn too

kevin spacey

i'm sure i'll be back with more...

that would be nick, i think? i've gotta say, nick (in the later episodes) kinda started to creep me out, although initially i thought he was rather cute. this is so embarrassing, but though daniel's clearly the hottie of the bunch, i find ken rather crushworthy (only because he's so cute in the tuba girl episode). muttonchops notwithstanding.

My everlasting fictional crush is James Bond.

I will never stop loving Sean Connery. I think it's his accent that does it for me.

I also had a crush on Fox Mulder in Year 9.

James Dean!!! hot hot hot!
Christian Slater is pretty cute.
Russel Crowe is sexy in a rough exterior but really caring underneath kind of way.
Kevin Spacey is cute in a quirky kind of way.
Michael from Nikita is sexy in a deep-voice, quiet and mysterious way.(Nikita is hotter though)

I can't say I have a "crush" on any of these guys, though, I just think they're hot. I feel like I'm back in junior high again, fun, fun, fun!

A very dangerous link indeed ...

... I moved to Chicago post-College specifically to find, meet and marry Dr. Carter (ER) but would settle for Drs. Green, Benton or Kovach (the one-night stand reserves are Drs. Ross and Maluchi).

Wolverine tops my bad boy list, as well.

Past crushes vary sadly the New Kids on the Block--each one of them EXCEPT Jonathan--occupied my pubescent heart at some point in time. And during the summer between seventh and eighth grade my best friend Amber and I constructed the "Wall of Men" in my bedroom, of which the main staple was FOUR issues of the same Seventeen magazine featuring Christian Slater ...

As they resurface, I am sure to be back with more ...

Wow...this is such fun!

1. Lindsey from Freaks and Geeks (my friend Leo saw Kim Kelly in something else, and said she was cute there).

2. Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu in Charlie's Angels. Embarrassing, but I loved the movie (it was dumb though).

3. Lisa Miller on Newsradio.

4. Parker Posey in most anything she's done.

5. Rosie, Lulu, and Helga from the Kit Kat Klub in Cabaret.

6. Michelle (but not Romy)

7. Kirsten Dunst in the Virgin Suicides and Dick

8. Halle Berry in Bulworth (even though she's a bad actress)

9. Katie Holmes in GO and Wonder Boys

10. Rebecca Pidgeon in State and Main

11. Lauryn Hill in King of the Hill (the movie, not the tv show), and in real life

12. Heather Graham in Boogie Nights.

Well. That's enough for now. Okay. So it's not like I won't be a happy man if I couldn't meet a composite of these women, but it would be nice.

oh oh oh! This is so fun! I gotta ready-made list:

1. The lead singer from the band Live- Ed Kowazylicksomething. He's not classicly handsome or anything, but he has the intensity onstage that is just...grrr.

2. Jim Cavaziel (another hard one to spell) from The Thin Red Line. Those eyes! Those cheekbones! Ohhh....

3. Whoever the guy is that played the English teacher in "Never Been Kissed." He is a definite oh hi there!

sorry, this probably isn't too fun considering I can't remember and/or spell their names, but hey. It works.

Jimmy Fallon from SNL- awww what an adorable guy what with those cute cowlicks and all...funny (most important thing) I love him!

Like janest, Berg from Two Guys and a Girl

Dan from Road Rules 5- he's a cutie

And if I have to pick someone from today's "acceptable" crushes, I guess Ben Affleck won't make me barf.

I'm not really attracted to "hot" guys, hehe just adorable sweeties I guess!

Kikinoir, I'm so glad you specified that you would be a "happy man," NOT because there would be anything wrong if you weren't, but for some reason I had always invisioned you as a woman! So I began to read your reply and I was like, "Oh!" and then I got to the last line, and I was like, "Ohhhhhhh I get it." It's nice to be enlightened. Learn something new every day.

I wouldn't throw Tara out of the bed for eating crackers, either, especially in that pink harem girl outfit she wore in that funky dream episode... gerrowl

I agree that Nick got creepy and Ken got good as the episodes went on, though I do love Nick in the last one. Aww.Glenn Quinn, how could I forget? I loved Doyle, and I even liked him as Mark on Roseanne, back when he was trying in vain to sound American. Never Been Kissed--that's Michael Vartan. So cute. He also was on Friends as Tom Selleck's son. Speaking of, I have a crush on Phoebe's brother (the character, not Giovanni Ribisi.) Jimmy Fallon, yes indeed. I also have love for Horatio Sanz. He always cracks me up.

The movies, this could get dangerous. Lloyd Dobler (how can you not?), Trip Fontaine (Virgin Suicides), Sick Boy (Trainspotting), Dirk Calloway (Rushmore --yes, he's 12, it's gross, whatever), Mark from Empire Records... I'd better stop now.
I used to think Linus was dreamy, but sadly, I find myself more enamored of the PigPen type as of late.

out of curiosity, do y'all find that your fictional crushes are a lot like your real-life ideal mate? or not at all? Like, I find fictional bad boys thoroughly irresistible, but my real-life type is the complete opposite: a little quiet, smart, down-to-earth, nice.

I find that the people in TV land I get crushes on have the type of personality that I find most attractive in real life. Cute and adorable...not the typical "hot" guy everyone goes for. I like funny guys, class clowns, and people who are sweet, loyal, and polite. So I guess the people I get crushes on in real life and the people I get crushes on in TV land are cut from the same mold.

Generally I tend to like the same type that my husband is-- an amalgam of genius geek, sweet, mannered gentleman and crazy bad boy. Any one of these will do by itself, but the combination is irresistable. That's why I'm adding another to the list:

Nicolas Cage's character in The Rock-- now I know the movie was pure, unfiltered trash, but what fun! And his character was eerily like my husband. Which annoys my husband.

I was talking to Ginsu about fictional crushes (and by the way, he's sorry for having basically disappeared from the boards, but is swamped with work this semester) and when I mentioned my Spike-over-Wesley preference, he protested, "But Wesley's much more like me!"

A little ego-boosting was then required

Spygirl- I like Chandler better now that he's with Monica... I think they're relationship reminds me somewhat (in a more sitcomy manner) of my own.

I tend to like guys similar to what I like in real life... had a huge thing for Joeseph Finnes from Shakespeare in Love a couple years ago. Not many new crushes as I don't watch too much TV. As a kid I always liked boys from Teen Beat that no one else ever really had heard of. Shane McDermott (Swans Crossing) and Mike Vitar (the Sandlot) were my fictional crushes at age 13.

amanda...i actually put it in there for that reason. this name is one i came up with because i thought it would be a cool grafitti tag (not that i have the guts to spraypaint on actual buildings). I thought it would sound cool because everyone would think some japanese girl was painting up their turf when it's just some boring white guy.

anyway...i totally dig your "He is a definite oh hi there!"...such a cute line.

janest...trip fontaine...gross. i guess i just can't get over what he became.

If we're gonna be gross and mention adolescents, I'm hanging onto a crush that i had as a teenager on Caitlin and Melanie on Degrassi Jr. High. Obviously they're too young for me now, but they were adorable way back when.

Lastly, and this has nothing to do with anything, but I've got a ton of ladybugs who are wintering in my apartment, and one just landed on my hand and freaked me out!
Also...odd...Henry Rollins and Fred Willard are both on Win Ben Stein's Money. I like both of them for such different reasons.

Hmmmmmm! A can of worms opened!

Wolverine!!!! (I talked Sean into growing big fat mutton chops. He thinks he looks like Neil Young circa '73, but I dream about that hunky X Man)

Lloyd Dobbler (That clash t-shirt!)

John Cusak

Rob from High Fidelity (From the book, but in the movie, too, of course)

Pierre Maguire (He's the former head coach of the Montreal Canadiens and is now a hockey commentator on TSN which is the Canadian equivalent of ESPN. He's bald and wears glasses and has an adorable geeky/jocky thing going on and he always talks with his hands.)

Eric Bachmann (Former lead guy from Archers of Loaf and current Crooked Fingers. He's super tall, balding and wears glasses. Hmm, a pattern seems to be developing. Anyway, he came to my birthday last year and when I worked at the cafe, used to come in and I'd give him free Cappuccinos. Sean used to be his publicist. He has an adorable Georgian accent!)

Shayne Corson (Defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs. A goon! And soooo cute!)

So, if I can summarize: slightly geeky guys who play hockey and obsess about indie music. That's Sean, and if you add all my pretend crushes up, you kinda get him.

Gotta add my two Degrassi cents: I used to love that show!! I remember I thought it was so cool that they actually featured punk kids that were real kids instead of just idiots or thugs(I took that kind of thing very seriously then).

And, I don't know how I forgot John Lynch as the uncle in the movie version of "The Secret Garden," Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff in "Wuthering Heights," [which I believe only ever aired on HBO, years ago] and Daniel Day-Lewis in "The Last of The Mohicans."

I'm a sucker for prominent noses.

I stand behind Trip Fontaine. He's a Magic Man! Though I was taken aback by his hair in the movie (that certainly wasn't how I envisioned it) as well as his Eddie and the Cruisers all grown up incarnation.

As far as what I have a crush on coinciding to what I like in real life, I'd say that the boys I like in make-believe world are, well, lacking in intelligence in a way that would get old fast in the real world. "Seductive in small doses" and all that. I like the cute, simple, goofy thing, but at some point, a decent conversation would be nice.

In no particular order

"The Rock" - You can check me in to the Smackdown Hotel anyday....aaaauuugggggghhhh(picture Homer here)

Giovanni Ribisi - Oh my lord, this man is HOT!!

Tony Montana from Scarface - not Al, but Tony

Angel Juan from the Weetzie Bat books - what a sweet, mysterious hunk of man he would be

Edward Scissorhands - sorry, but I want one of him to bring home - I'd love him and pet him and feed him.....

Bruce Willis - need I say more? Didn't think so

Li Mu Bai - all that flyin' and fightin' is enough to get a gal in a tissy - had a dream that he said I was good enough that he was training me to be a Wudan fighter.....ohhh, why did I have to wake up?

Peoples from Shaft - I know, I know! I think I have a serious bad boy/f**cked up guy thing going on here....ah well, bring 'em on!!!

I had a thing for Mulder until I realized that he looked like my brother....it kinda ruined the show for me

Tori Amos - if I was a lesbian, she'd be my first pick - as it is I have an unhealthy obsession with her

Scully/Gillian Anderson - One hot mama, I more wanna be her than date her, but...

This guy at work...sorry, had to add him, although the package is a lot better than the real deal, that's why I'm pretty sure he'll stay fictional

Madonna

Christopher Walken

Frances McDormand

Phillip Seymour Hoffman in both Magnolia and in State and Main.

Jodie Foster

Humbert Humbert in Lolita... speaking of which... Jeremy Irons in the movie version.

Alan Rickman in anything, anytime, anywhere.

Allison Janney on "The West Wing".

God, this is the best topic, ever. I could keep going for hours!
