Woohoo! Kellyrae wins the double chocolate /peanut butter chip cookie. Dave is, uhh, sort of really obsessed with horror flicks (making our "halloween wedding in a haunted inn" even more perfect) and that was one of the first ones we watched together. It stillcracks me up, and once in awhile we say that to each other. Alas, Dave has requested that the sentiment not be sarcastic. Which is so hard -- I was telling my friends that I was really tempted to go in to the jeweler and fill out the form and ask "okay, so 18 letters, right? Is 'dildoes' O-S or O-E-S?" Dammit.

Hermia, I love a few of yours -- and so nice to count letters! It's driving me nuts, I want to get graph paper or something to work on it. At this point, I'm thinking maybe "more than anything" because that's sort of something we add to our sentiments a lot. I know that, and he would too, but I'm just looking for a few more ideas.... I also found that googling 'ring inscription' is more relevant than 'ring engraving,' FWIW.

Hee hee hee... thanks you guys... And no, unfortunately, Krissy won't be joining me down the aisle... She gets carsick, so we wouldn't be able to take her to the church. Also, she wasn't exactly thrilled to be in those pictures... I'd hate to think what she'd be like in front of all those people!

I'm getting so nervous about the wedding... I'm just afraid I'm going to forget something. Last night we had to have a come-to-Jesus meeting with our reception hall because they altered the decor of the place without telling us. (we only found out because we *happened* to call on Saturday to check on things...) So now they are paying out the ear to provide us with decorations (since we hadn't planned on having any ourselves... thus had no money to buy/rent them)

I'm pretty happy about the outcome, though... we even got a free bartender!

I am breaking in my wedding shoes as I type! I am disproportionately excited, though I do keep shining the lamps at oblique angles to make sure I'm not stomping holes all over the parquet floor.

Edited to add that I have just established they will be fine for dancing - the cat was tormenting a gecko, and I have spent 10 minutes leaping about the sitting room trying to get it out of his mouth, shut him in another room, and put the gecko outside. He is back in the room now and seems satisfied with the wriggling tail it left behind. He's really quite revolting.

ooh lesliele, have fun!

S's mom has started making my dress, and I think she's a wee bit nervous. She keeps calling me with a bazillion questions that I have no idea how to answer, since the only sewing I can do is buttons (and that's usually only when absolutely necessary). I can't wait until she comes in town over Thanksgiving and I can try it on!!!

HELP HELP HELP!!!

The whole POINT of our small wedding is to have only people we both know there. I invited as such, not including "as guest" or any crap like that.

Dave's sister RSVP'ed with the menu choices for all of her family (who I invited) and her son's f'ing girlfriend, that NO ONE has met, hell, we thought (and still do think) he is gay, so the girlfriend is quite the surprise guest.

Already we are at CAPACITY for the room. I mean, utter and total capacity. My two little cousins are eating in the lounge adjacent at a kids table for gods sake. How do i handle this? HELPPPPPP. I don't want to be a prissy bitch, but seriously. I don't want a stranger there. There are plenty of opportunities for us to meet the girlfriend, I feel like MY WEDDING is not the best one.

Also, this girl is brand new, has to be, MIL has been crowing forEVER about how she wishes he'd find a girl, it's not like she's a long time girlfriend or whatever.

WHAT DO I DO>????

Boo, I had people do that for my wee wedding too, although fortunately it was, you know, at a beach, so there was lots of room. But man, who wants to go to a STRANGER'S wedding anyway?

I think Dave gets to tell his sis that sorry, we really only have room for your immediate family, too late to change plans blah blah blah, although we look forward to meeting ms. whoever at a later date.

yeah, what Yam said.

I don't want my friend's boyfriend to come because he's a selfish, arrogant wanker, and I want her to get off with another friend of mine, who is *MUCH* nicer and would be so much better suited for her.

Any suggestions on how I handle that one?

My date is June 12 next year. We were going to have June 5 but there is always a huge demonstration on or about June 4 to commemorate the Tiananmen Square massacre which runs right by our reception venue, so that would be a real mood-killer.

on the flip side, will one extra person REALLY stretch things that much? If you see asking her not to come as being a potential issue with the family, then perhaps just letting go and hoping that it will all work out is the way to go. In my experience these things usually work themselves out.

Well, from Gretchen's post, it seems like it would. Plus, I think its the principle of the thing -- its a small wedding and she wants to know everyone who is there. Plus, quite simply, the new girlfriend wasn't invited. I hate rudeness when it comes to invites. Crashing a wedding? It was cute in Working Girl, but in real life I think its just tacky. Tell whomever, politely but firmly, that space is quite limited, due to fire marshall regulations only a certain number of people are allowed in the reception venue, you're at that exact number already, can't break the law... blah blah etc. and someone'll get the hint.

Yeah, that's the thing -- we are on a small porch that has a 5 tables for 6 -- and we have 33 eating when you count our photogs and officiant. One more is just not possible, it would be different if this was a bigger affair, or even if there WAS space, but the whole thing has been "family only" from the beginning.

I talked to my mom, and to Dave, and after school I amcalling and saying "I'm sorry there was a misunderstanding, but it is just not possible to have any extra guests due to the size of the room. We would love to meet ANgie at someother time, but unfortunately, we don't have the space to invite her to the wedding."

But still. I'm pissed, Dave is too, it has not been a secret, at all, that we want this small. Hell, Dave's aunts aren't invited, my best friend from fist grade's mom isn't invited, and she's helped me with the wedding!!! ARGH. Not a fun call, but a necessary one, and honestly, if they throw a fit, it's really no skin off our backs. Dave is almost secretly hoping they do. It's a complicated situation.

it sounds like you have it all under control. maybe if anyone else ends up crashing you can put them with the kids table. and make them eat chicken fingers. and fruit punch. Your prepared phrase is just right: firm, but not irritating. polite. which is more than can be said for them.

it's on a porch? If she shows up after you tell them not to bring her, tell her to jump on the railing. Or maybe, she could sit on the lawn...you could give her a cordless phone and some delivery menus.

I think you're handling it well. With the stress of a wedding, I would probably have had a tantrum by now and told them all to f off.

It is 6:30 am EST.

Day of my wedding.

I've been awake for 2 hours.

I cannot fall back asleep!! I've tried everything... Petting the cat (who hasn't left my side in DAYS), watching tv, reading, eating something, deep breathing, counting sheep, etc. etc. Nada. All the while, The has been snoring contentedly in the spare room. *sigh* At least I don't have bags under my eyes, I checked.

Everything is going smoothly so far... well, pretty much. The tux place managed to get one out of four right... and the other three so screwed up that my dad's and The' have been back and forth like, 4 times. Oy.

I had a couple girlfriends come over and help me clean the place on Thursday, so I have a shiny clean house now. Friday, we ran errands, picked up my dress and the beast of an SUV that we rented for transportation... and had the rehearsal at the church. All in all, a very productive day. We had dinner at they Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet and had a fair turnout of 12 people. (only my dad was there... the rest of our immediate families had other stuff they had to do, which was no biggie, it wasn't a formal thing.)

Today, I have to get my hair done at 11-- wow, 4.5 hours away... maybe I will be able to fall asleep before then? Then, I'll be putzing around finishing the programs for the ceremony and doing my nails until around 2 or 3 when we will take pictures locally. We head to the church at 5 to make sure everyone is there, etc. and it all goes down at 6 pm.

Our reception hall is beautious... We set up the finishing touches yesterday, too... candles, fortune cookies, etc.

I'm excited!!!

I just wish I could get some sleep...

Yay! congrats, LeslieLe and also kbmello, I believe. Was therea nyone else?

In other news, the telling of the sister did NOT go well, as her 21 yeard old son's girlfriend of two months is "like a wife," ahem, and it's continued to boil as I've been away getting my dress, and as suspected, it looks like they will not be attending at all.

Yay. All that does is hurt Dave's feelings and make them look like assholes. Dave is pissed that his family is pulling this weird "you love Gretchen MORE" bullshit, because it is immature (keep in mind, sister is 45 or so) and embarrassing for him that his family would BE so immature, when it was so clearly explained that it was not a personal issue as much as a space issue.

Sigh -- I just want to be married already and not have people being assholes to my future husband and me, you know?

In other news, I got my dress! YAY!!!!

could you ask them to cut one guest from their side of the family to give the Crashing Girlfriend a place to sit?

greschya, that really bites. That is so stupid that you're having this problem with "real" family...don't they understand the whole purpose of a SMALL wedding? And that whole "you love Gretchen more" comment makes me mad. Hello, he did get to pick you...he didn't pick his family, right? ugh. I hate people sometimes. If you need a "high-heeled-shoe-mishap" for Dave's nephew's "wifey", let me know.

We went to the Inn today and upgraded our room, so that GIRLFRIEND that noone has met or even KNEW ABOUT can be at my f'ing wedding. I'm still pissed, and Dave is still hurt and embarrassed, and i can GUARANTEE that this will not be satisfying ENOUGH. I mean, I'm buying your meal, sit down and SHUT UP already.

And, even more annoying, some stranger is coming to my wedding, and I hear she has a baby, and while I LOVE babies, I really do, if she shows up at my very small wedding with some little curtain climber I will be SO. PISSED.

In other news, Dave has said that he thinks he might cry when he sees me walking down the path (aisle) in my dress. Yay for love!
