I have read the thread on wedding shower favors, and while it is helpful, it is not exactly what I am looking for.

I've been to the tacky showers for friends/cousins, and now that I'm planning one for my best bud, I really do not want to sit around answering cute quizzes about the bride and groom or playing silly games. I KNOW you digs gals will have some funky and cool ideas, so please help me out! THis is my first time with the whole bridal party experience.

Also, anyone have cool ideas for a bachelorette party that don't involve strange men sucking candies off my friend in a bar? We're not prudes by a long shot, but I don't want this one to be tacky either.

Much appreciated!
Shannon

Well, as a bride-to-be, I can tell you what I'd want.

I would say go with an elegant get together... more like a dinner party. Or, check out Yee-fan's Swank Party ideas from the front page.

I think that would be SUPER fun- everyone can get all decked out and maybe go out like that. Find a martini bar or something like that and claim a large table and see who comes to YOU. (That is, if drinking is going to be a large part of the party)

If the bride-to-be isn't much into the bar scene (Which I know I'm not...) then try something more non-traditional. Have a barbeque in a park. You can reserve one of those outdoor pavilions and cook out, or just get stuff pre made from the grocery store. If it's nice, you can play frisbee or catch or fly kites.

Try to take the bride-to-be's personality into consideration. Above all, you want her to have fun and be comfortable.

http://www.msnbc.com/news/860271.asp - this has some fun ideas and they come from the Feb. issue of InStyle magazine. in it there's a dark purple and blue bridal shower (dark purple martinits, blue and purple frosting on chocolate cupcakes with diamond rings on top, purple flowers and decorations) and they bedazzle little organza sacks for a project... now i'd LOVE something like this cuz i'm crafty, and i love the colors they used, but it just depends on the bride-to-be... i totally don't want a tacky, embarassing bridal shower, whenever it's my turn to have one

i had a friend take the girls in her wedding party to a day spa, but that's not really a shower i guess, is it... ?

Another idea would be to have a pampering slumber party. Manicures, pedicures, masks, etc. I think that would be fun.
My friend got married during college, and since none of us were 21, we just went out for a nice dinner and enjoyed each others' company.
Good luck!

ooo ooo, i just thought of something else... my sisters and i went to this pottery making/painting store thing a while ago. in the store, there are shelves and shelves of different unfinished peices, the prices vary, and you pick one and paint it. they had all the paint supplies there, and then they take the peices and fire them and a few days later, you have hand painted pottery.

so we were thinking, while we were doing it, that it would make a great bridal shower thing to do because the bride could pick out a bunch of peices and then when you're done, have a bunch of hand made things from all her friends. useful and fun. we thought like, a tea set (tea pot with cups and saucers) would be cool, and there were some different sized serving bowls and platters as well as mugs and picture frames...
