I need something sexy as hell. I REALLY need to feel good about myself.

It's at a gay bar, so.. anything goes, really.. but bear in mind I'm not so much in love with my thighs.

PLEASE PLEASE. I REALLY need help.

(and nothing too craftsy, too, I'm pretty crap at that).

As an example: I was going to do a full-on dominatrix thing - leather corset, skirt, boots, whip... but someone else is doing that.

Schoolgirl? Not sure if Irish women have that same little fetish, but the American men seem to dig it. Plaid skirt, knee socks, mary janes, button down white shirt just unbuttoned a leeeetle too much, nice demure jewelery, sexy hair and eye makeup. Simple and cheap too, because you can probably get most from your own closet of those of friends.

Or super slink evening gown type... glam it up, hair, high heels, cigarette holder?

On the flip side, fun to pull off if you're normally more femme, go super glam butch, swank suit, slicked back hair, super super gentlemanly... excuse me while I swoon!

Lots of chicks like uniforms too...

hmm, are any of these easy to come by costumes? What about a pair of men's pants and boyish shoes or high heels, suspenders and a white tank top? You could say you're an enforcer for the mob or something.

Sorry, getting distracted. Must stop.

Bottle of Champagne: Paint yourself gold, or go crazy with the gold body glitter (or both!), strategically place gold colored or painted fabric in areas that you'd like to keep covered (or wear a little top and a mini skirt you can color gold ir you don't want to bare it all; a gold slip dress would work well too), pile your hair on top of your head and carry around a bottle of bubbles you can blow when people ask what you are.

I'm all excited too -- are you throwing a party again this year, Ms MoneyPenny? Everybody's been telling us already that they're really looking forward to our party this year, which has me A) all excited about party planning and B)a little stressed because I have yet to come up with the perfect costume. We went to a couple of parties last weekend and I can't even count how many people asked us if we had costume ideas yet!

ooo ooo - I need help too!

Every year - we go to the same island in Lake Erie for a party. On this island - it's perpetually about 1972 in the "downtown" area & 1968 in the outer areas. (the island is only 9x12 miles).
First year - I was excited. I went as 80's girl. Complete with off the shoulder sweatshirt & tank top, side pony tail, bad blue eye shadow, teased bangs & bracelets. I even cuffed my jeans and put a pink bandana around my knee.
It bombed.
Next year - I went as a doctor because I forgot my other costume.
Next year - I went as a road - wore black, had strategically placed mini road signs (one way, exit only, curves ahead) etc. With a hat shaped like a traffic cone that said "Stop-A-Head".
Everyone took one look at me and said "Look, Pete brought his work!" (because he works on the roads on this island).
Last year - he went as a bishop, I went as a pregnant nun.
That was fun - but being a nun was just odd (Catholic school upbringing & all).

So - what to do this year?? I like the thought of making a costume - he wants to be Dr. Evil and wants me to make a Nehru jacket. (my sewing skills are limited - this would take a miracle). But I like making from stuff around the house...

Thoughts??

My Mom once made my brother a nehru jacket by taking a collared jacket she found at a thrift store, undoing the seams on the collar and just sewing the band part back up. Kind of hard to explain, but she's not much of a seamstress, so it was pretty easy and looked great. 'Course she was lucky and found a jacket that didn't have lapels...the hardest part might be finding the right kind of jacket.

Emcarb, I think you are my long lost sister or something because I constantly find myself nodding in agreement to your posts, and all too often uttering phrases like "Right on, Babe" and "I loved that idea, too!"

Anyway, I saw that in the new MSL too and almost died because it looks sooo awesome. I went out and bought white hose, foam eggs and a million little plastic spiders as soon as I saw those icky creepy spider sacks on those pages.

We're having a huge Halloween party this year, and in addition to the huge spider nest we're going to create in the main hall, I'm totally nabbing Yeefan's amazing dismembered doll mobile idea. That is just too freaking fabulous!

In out kitchen, we're going to make one of those "meathead" skulls (I think I first saw the link on Not Martha) and put it in a big pot on the stove next to a "Cookbook for Cannibals". We're also going to put stuffed arms and legs sticking out of random appliances like the oven and from under the refrigerator (I think I read that on this site too). A couple of cleavers and some (fake) blood soaked kitchen towels will complete that room.

In the bathroom, we're going to do something very similar to what someone suggested above; it will be the scene of a "victim of the black market organ trade" (slashed, bloody, half torn down shower curtain, lots of bloody towels, and in the tub, a mannequin (my roommate works at a department store), lots of ice, and some kind of innards. I'm considering wrapping mini spiders and ants into the toilet paper rolls but I don't know if they'd stay or if anyone would even notice them as they'd fall out as soon an the toilet paper was unrolled. I just saw the idea about putting instructions for Bloody Mary and I definitely plan to give that a try. Or maybe I might just scrawl her name on the mirrors three times instead of printing out instructions?

The living room will resemble a deserted haunted house with the furniture draped in white sheets, cracked mirrors, crooked pictures, boarded up windows, dead houseplants and vases of dried red roses, and cobwebs. The centerpiece will be a huge creepy looking skeleton ghost that will drape starting at the ceiling and cover an entire wall.

There'll also be other random decorations like a noose or two (I just learned how to tie them tonight). I'm thinking I might hang one on the front door, with or without a dummy. Lots of black candles, some skulls, a ouija board, etc.. I love pumpkins but I'd like to keep the living room all white so I think I'll try to get those pale white pumpkins if possible. I'm also renting a strobe light and a fog machine (I don't know if I'll actually bother with the fog machine, though.)

Are there any threads devoted specifically to Halloween décor? I couldn't find one and didn't want to start a new one as there a plenty of Halloween decoration ideas in this one, but if anyone remembers any...

I'm not having a party this year. I've opted to go to South Florida the whole week before Halloween to see my parents, so no time to plan. The bad thing is, no one else has seems to want to have a party either. Everyone keeps asking me where the party is, but I don't know if there will be one this year. We may have to crash one. I do have a costume idea though. Originally I was just going as a circus ringleader and a friend of mine as the lion tamer. But I'm going to step it up a notch and go as the Orbit commercial girl where she dresses as the ringleader. Now I just have to find a white tux with tails.

I really wanted my boy and I to go as Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, but switch the genders. He's tall and skinny, and I have a cowboy hat. But K didn't know who they were, so alas, we must find other costumes.

He has an old VCR he says he can wear as a mask, and I thought it'd be kind of funny to go along as a porno video, but how would you do that without just looking like a porn star?

Ok, so I'm super excited about the Halloween party I'll be throwing this year. However, still haven't decided on a costume. Things I'm considering: a black & white silent film star, a ketchup bottle (there's a cute one at Target), a wind-up doll, Willie Nelson, Martha Stewart (complete with orange jumpsuit and apron). Any of these inspire great ideas in any of you?

My husband and I are going as Hugh Hefner and one of the Playboy bunnies. Super simple. He will wear old man pajamas and my dad's stripey housecoat and carry a pipe; I will wear a slutty outfit with a bunny tail and ears + shirt cuffs around my wrists and a black ribbon tied around my neck. Should be pretty simple, cheap and fun. We are hosting a Halloween party so we want to have time to spend on the party rather than our costumes.

My sister and her boyfriend are thinking of going as Neo and Trinity from the Matrix. Also really simple - head-to-toe black outfits, leather jackets, and sunglasses.

Any ideas on how to spiff up these costumes?

detinu2000 -
No, not Put-In-Bay, but Pelee Island. Put-In-Bay seems to be a little more "modern" than Pelee - but I love Pelee just the same.
The only problem is - a lot of costumes that would be a hit on the mainland, go completely unappreciated on the island.
I thought about being "white trash" - and attaching pieces of white paper to me.

Can't decide... Can't decide.. I also have a black bridesmaid dress that I'm not using - I thought of attaching sleeves of some sort to it (so I don't freeze) and going as a witch in formal wear. Or I could attach wing like things, put on a tilted halo & go as a fallen angel.
Do you think my friend would be pissed if she found out that the dress I wore in her wedding was now being used as a halloween costume?

We also have a Misfits cover band, and a Dungeons and Dragons inspired band that wears costumes, sings songs about mead and slaying, and will only play by candlelight.

The easiest costume I have seen is a black eyed pea, all you need is a tee shirt with a "P" on it and some black paint for one of your eyes, but....if you wanna put some time into it, one of the funniest costume I have ever seen was a .....pregnant nun! Imagine the looks that girl got!! haha

I went as a pregnant nun last year. Hubby was a bishop or cardinal or something.
It actually wasn't a big hit - although it was SUPER comfy. The pillow kept falling down all night though...

Still can't decide...
White trash (with pieces of white garbage pinned to me)
Cereal Killer (with small cereal boxes attached to me)
Fallen angel (wearing a black bridesmaid dress from a few years ago, wings & a crooked halo)
Witch (same bridesmaid dress, with hat)

Hmmmmm

Oh wow! That M&M thing is funny. I love costumes with puns. I was a French Kiss one year. I wore a beret and a Kiss t-shirt.

The cereal killer is a costume I have heard about lots but never actually seen. You can't do it around here, cause we actually had a serial killer here last year.

I think I'm going as Willie Nelson. I ordered a Farm Aid shirt from ebay. I just need the hair! I can't wait to see pictures of everyone's costumes and parties!

That's from the show's intro, when she takes off her glove and puts it on the bottle as it goes by on the conveyor belt.

Not that that has anything to do with Halloween... sorry .

So is this cool, or the most pretentious idea you've ever heard of? Personally, I just like the idea of going around to my female friends and asking them to join SCUM (the Society for Cutting Up Men)...

I have the kneesocks, mary janes, plaid skirt that I wore in high school, white blouse... anything else I should add? What should I wear UNDER the skirt? My hair is pretty short, so I can't really do the pigtails, but maybe a scarf? Some barettes? help me flesh this out, guys!
