What teas are you fond of?

I just bought some from Cost Plus that is lavander flavor, and it's awesome! It's like rolling in a field of it, I swear! Even the brewing is delightful because of the fantastic scent. Lavender has therapeutic effects as well, so even better.

Everyone who has been to my house in the last few months has had some and they all love it.

So...what's in your cup?

St. John's Wort tea. It's made by Yogi and I had originally bought it for a little "cheer me up", but damn, it tastes good! It's sort of a licorice flavor, but a bit milder. And the added bonus is, the box it came in had some yogic exercises, and each tea bag has a nice little meditative message on it.
Yum yum.

Earl Grey by Bigelow. Much preferred over the Twinings one. Though the Prince of Wales and Lady Grey of Twinings is good.

Not really into herbal teas. Though I do have ginger tea for nausea/dizziness and heartily recommend loquat tea for sore throats.

Right now, good ol' plain Lipton black tea, made with honey instead of sugar, and a drop of vanilla extract. But, I enjoy fruity, tropical teas every once in a while, especially iced in the summer. Oooh, peach iced tea!

celestial seasonings "sleepytime tea" (mostly camomile, I think) actually makes me sleepy, so I'm hooked.

I drink cheap blackcurrent black tea when I want to stay awake.

Hey, just curious: however did you get turned onto drinking loquat tea? Most people I know have never even heard of loquats. We had a tree in the backyard when I was growing up, and I loved the fruit. But came a time when I was about 11 and got really horrible, awful, roll-around-on-your-bed-in-anguish menstrual cramps, and my mom was out of the country. So I had to fess up to my dad (horror of preteen horrors) and he made me some loquat tea, which stopped the cramps immediately!

I like mint tea, Tension Tamer by Celestial Seasonings, and a vanilla chamomile tea. I love herbal tea, and usually have a wide selection around. I found a ginger peach which was quite nice too.

I love tea!
Currently I'm digging Chai Spice. Not sure of the brand.

My standard tea for hot and iced is Twinings Lady Grey with raw sugar to sweeten. I prefer it over Earl Grey.

My current non-caffiene tea is Celestial Seasons Peachy something or other.

For Valentine's Day a few years back I received the coolest tea pot ever. It's glass, with a removable steeper and has a lid. It makes the best iced tea!

Edited to add this link:

it's just been in the last year that i've realized that there are any teas i like. thought friends and family tried many times to hook me on tea, i could never adjust to the taste. it turns out i still can't stand black tea, but i love green tea and some herbal teas. my current favorites are jasmine green tea and peppermint tea. mmmm...

edited to say that i'm intrigued by the possibility of lavender tea and loquat tea. a new quest...

hey Joanna: for ginger tea, try buying candied ginger and just letting a few pieces of that steep in hot water. You get that soothing ginger flavor but it's very sweetened, which makes it a lot tastier.I'm actually not a big fan of ginger in general, but I love tea made from candied ginger.

emmalou wondered: however did you get turned onto drinking loquat tea?

I was catching up with a friend while I was in the cough stage. He's a smoker and he suggested it to me. I finally got around to trying it the *next* cold I had and it really helped. I'm the type that gets over the sniffles pretty quickly but the cough part lingers for 3 weeks. I didn't realize that it's also good for stomach cramps so will have to keep that in mind. That's a great story about your dad knowing about that remedy!

I'll have to try the jasmine green tea. Sounds yummy!

I buy all of my tea from a place here in town www.butterflyherbs.com GO THERE!! They have some of the best tea I have ever tasted or smelled mmmmmm! The prices are very reasonable and it is well worth taking a look at. Evening in Missoula is my favorite at the moment. The Green Teas are very good as well. They have everything on the website from herbs, coffee, teas, soaps, candy, lots of goodies Now that I look at it, it hasn't been updated oh since 1997 but it looks like they have everything that I saw on there. The phone# is the same just in case anyone wants to call and make an order.

I just had a cup of Numi honeybush tea. They make good stuff, especially their lapsang souchong, which is smoky & hardcore.

I make ginger tea by slicing fresh ginger & steeping the chunks in hot water with lots of honey.

Also, my friend runs a tea place here in town - they make exotic loose tea blends that are really expensive and awesome. Help a brother out: http://www.rishi-tea.com

lady grey is YUMMY!

I love my peppermint - boring, but SO good. And lemon & ginger... (twinings, or home-made)

Also, steeping thyme in hot water is REALLY good after a big meal. My brother's (future) mother-in-law taught us that.

My favorite tea of all time is a loose-leaf called 'Kaiserin Morisan' from the Tea Room Savannah here in town. They renamed it Emperor's Bride, but it's still the same blend. It is pretty fruity, with pieces of pineapple, orange rind in with the black tea. Yum! I love that place.

I like almond loose-leaf, too. When I was little I would always have this tea called 'Ruby Mist' that was pink, but tasted like mint. I like Twining's Prince of Wales, and I actually like their Earl Grey best. It's what I drink on a regular basis.

At this place in MOntreal, I used to drink hot ginger tea with lemon in it. It was made by letting real lemon and ginger steep together. It was so good, especially when I had a cold! I'm going to have to try and make it.

Where was that? (I live in Montreal every other semester)

I tend to have a huge variety of tea. I like English Breakfast when I need an energy boost (like tonight at dinner time, when I felt exhausted and knew I had a three hours lab coming up).

I usually drink green tea when I am studying (cause I can drink gallons of it without being TOO energized... somehow hot and slightly cafeinated beverages make me truly intelligent). My father brought me back a pack of lotus green tea from Vietnam and it's truly delicious.

I also have herbal teas for nighttime (I like camomille before going to bed) and I recently started drinking ginger tea after reading your article, bali. But I was too lazy to find cristallized ginger and just use thin slices of raw ginger. Since I never put sugar (nor lemon or milk) in my tea, I don't mind the lack of sweetness.

I've been drinking a lot of South African Rooibos (roybosh). It's an organic, caffeine free, red tea that has something like three times the antioxidants and good stuff of green tea. It has an amazing flavor that I cannot compare to anything else, but is sort of smokey and sweet.

Peppermint! not boring at all-- I like to think of it as 'classic'. There's something very soothing and refreshing about peppermint tea.

Really looking forward to trying the thyme idea tonight... do you just put loose thyme in a mesh tea ball?

I really like flavored black teas (like raspberry, lemon, etc.) Definitely black teas - I don't like herbal teas. But I have a hard time finding good teas (I usually only have the black currant one by Twinings, I think?) Does anyone know any good brands/places to find flavored black teas? That won't be too challenging to a grad school budget

Do you have recipes for any easy tea-time foods that can be prepared in advance? Since I don't come from an anglo-saxon culture, I don't know much about "tea food" but I've recently baked scones and found that really good.

Since I have a very hectic schedule, I never know when I'll have time for a full meal, so I appreciate taking a filling "tea pause" between two study sessions.

One time I had a little tea party and bought a pound cake from the bakery, spread slices with purchased lemon curd (next to jelly & jam at the grocery) and topped the slices with strawberries. Scones are the best with clotted cream, which I got at a specialty shop here in town. I can find a recipe if you're interested. It's like really thick whipped cream without the sweetness.

I am also going to agree that peppermint tea isn't boring- but a classic- when I am in the right mood I really crave it sometimes. As long as I don't grab three bags of raspberry tea and one bag of peppermint and put it in the iced tea machine... We could smell the error right away- it not only tasted awful, but smelled awful too, not a good accident.
I tend to usually drink fruit flavored black teas, or chamomile tea.

One of my friends families in college used to just boil fresh mint leaves in water to make a mint tea- they then served it cold like iced tea, but I imagine that it was good hot also. That is what I imagined that the thyme tea was like. I've been wanting to try it with rosemary, I think that would be good. If only my little plant would grow.

dzine: we just pick stalks of thyme from the plant outside the door and put them straight into the cup, taking them out after a while.

Mint tea made from leaves is really good too, yeah.

In my search for a ginseng tea, I came across Celestial Seasonings' ginseng/spearmint/camomile/orange zest stuff. Not bad... drinking a lot of it at the moment, as I'm studying.

Epi: I like redbush tea too.

And green tea is also perfect for studying.

Afternoon tea foods:
little sandwiches
Fairy cakes (like little muffins)
crumpets
scones w cream and jam
fruit tartlets are always good if you a) have the time or b) buy them!
you could bake a sponge cake if you really wanted
good brown bread and butter is an irish staple.

When my family has tea, my mom always makes ribbon sandwiches. Take three slices of bread (thinly sliced is best - we usually use Pepperidge Farm) - 2 slices white, 1 slice wheat, or vice versa. Spread cream cheese (using two kinds makes it prettier, salmon is good because it's pink) on two of the slices. Put them all together, alternating bread colors (white slice - wheat slice - white slice) Cut off the crusts (and save them for the birds ), then cut what's left into 3 slices. They are very dainty and pretty (and very filling for an afternoon snack)

otherwise is the chai my mom makes me from scratch, she makes it every single morning for me whenever i'm home. she has pounds and pounds of spice that she grinds herself. some of it is spice my grandmother ground and saved for her befare she passed away. i have never had better chai than my mom's.

my favorite thing to eat with tea is warm thick pita and hummus & lemon wedges. after gonig to a tealuxe and eating it there with my tea i am hooked.

Hey guys -- I've been lurking on this board for an embarassingly long time. Reading these posts made me crave some hot tea so bad, I hopped right up and made a cup (Lipton Soothing Moments Cinnamon Apple, which I'm enjoying even as we speak with some tasty little wafery Indian crackers the office vegan brought in to share -- punjabi mathi with ajwain seeds). I keep peppermint, cinnamon and Earl Grey tea bags in my desk drawer at work -- easy to make using the boiling water spout on the coffee machine (I know, hardly purist). Soothes me when I'm stressed, calms my growling tummy midafternoon. Plus, I always have a variety so I can make-believe I'm pampering myself even though I'm in a gray, windowless office dungeon ("Hmm, shall I have the Earl Grey with a drop of cream, or the peppermint with a dainty slice of Nutri-Grain bar ...)

I try to avoid adding any sugar to my tea, just because I tend to go overboard with it. Does anybody know which ones are naturally the sweetest? I'm gonna try that candied ginger idea.

This may be boring but I like lemon zinger. I've not tried a great variety of teas so I'm no expert.

However, a coworker from Lucknow in India brought us some kashmiri tea. I loved it! It's a green tea of some sort and requires oxidation to achieve it's pinky milkiness and it tastes yummilicious. the recipe sounded complicated so i looked through the web to try to find some and found several that were called kashmiri tea but they weren't the real thing. they were pretty much flavored only. another guy in the office said he'd been to a dinner where they tried to make it but they couldn't oxidize it correctly and it turned out bad.

So, to recapitulate: I like lemon zinger. I love kashmiri tea.
