So, what shows do you refuse to miss? Secret guilty pleasures?

My can't-miss list is pretty short these days and basically consists of Buffy, Angel and Gilmore Girls (yeah, yeah, shut up already; i know it's girly and i don't care). I've finally weaned myself off the awful Roswell (with the help of my monday night dance class). Shows I'll watch if I happen to catch them: That 70s Show (I actually find it very, very funny, but alas, it conflicts with Buffy ... no contest), West Wing, Will + Grace. I also have to admit that I have a strange fascination with Antiques Roadshow and This Old House.

I have got to stop watching so much tv. My have to watch list includes: Nikita, Blind Date, The simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle, the news, Friends, Frasier(the last 2 come on as re-runs every night). If i have time, I watch Ally McBeal, Wierd Homes, Extreme Homes, about 4 design ones with really annoying hosts, Oprah, Dharma and Greg... I could go on. I am totally embarassed to admit I also watch Martha Stewart sometimes. I swear, the tv is sucking my brain out. It is evil!!!

I refuse to miss:

The Simpsons
Saturday Night Live
Survivor
Friends

And that's just on network. If I happen to be watching TV at the time and Behind the Music, an MTV Uncensored Special (all though it's hard to believe how much MTV sucks now), SNL reruns on Comedy Special, South Park, or Daria...I'll drop everything to watch em!

The West Wing

ug. I must watch ER. every week. without fail. I like to catch Friends, but that isn't as exciting because I can catch up with it in syndication three times daily. And since my TV only gets two channels, I have grown fond of Dawson's Creek, Jack and Jill and Felicity.

what a girl.

I'm a selective TV addict...LOL...

Must see:

ER, Ed (great great show!), Everybody Loves Raymond, Whose Line is it Anyway?, Third Watch, Gilmore Girls (yeefan, nothing to be ashamed of there!!), Will and Grace, X-Files, Malcolm in the Middle, That 70's Show, Frasier, ...

Don't like to miss...

Dharma & Greg, Ally Mcbeal, Just Shoot Me, The Practice, Bob and Margaret, King of Queens, Titus, Friends, reruns of Seinfeld...

And that's all I can think of right now. Thank the goddess we only have three channels!!

eh--Thursday nights are the worst, with all three networks battling it out at 8 p.m. with the whole "Friends" super-size thing followed by SNL. Directly conflicts with "Whose Line Is it Anyway?" (can't miss Wayne Brady if my life depended on it). But someone told my hubby to catch some of Survivor. We friggin' switched between all three channels!! ugh.

As if that's bad enough, last night they were showing a full hour of Battlebots on Comedy Central which conflicted with both Will and Grace and Just Shoot Me!

I can't imagine how bad I'd be if I had cable ... every time I visit my parents I find myself sucked into HGTV, the food channel, and of course the myriad movie channels.

Have to see: Oz. Without a doubt. Also obsessed with: Dawson's Creek (bleh, I know) and Ed which are oh-so-conveniently on against each other.
Other shows I wish I could always catch: Will and Grace, SNL, Taina (the Nickelodeon comedy about a performing arts high school girl), Two Guys and a Girl (a fixation on the bigger of the "guys" is to blame for that one) The Spin Room on CNN (Political debate with a sense of humor! None of that "I'm talking louder so I'm right!" junk. Wow!) The Daily Show,Spongebob Squarepants, The Powerpuff Girls, either of the Law & Orders and the whole Saturday afternoon true crime lineup on A&E including the snarky City Confidential.
With the exception of Freaks and Geeks (which I was all over from go), I tend to get into shows as they are about to bite the dust, like Strangers With Candy and Mr Show. I caught king of the Hill a couple of times this season. I hope that doesn't die.
I really like TV, I wish I had more time to watch it.

Oooh--how could I forget Monkey Business on Animal Planet? How did I miss that one? They show the daily goings-on of a primate refuge. There is this darling baby orangutan named Gordon and a sweet baby chimp named Alice.

Also, Junkyard Wars on TLC...

Oh, yeah--Two Guys and A Girl. I can't get hubby to do anything at around 8 or 9 on Fridays!!

This is an excellent topic! Are you kidding me?!

I never watched anything but HGTV before I moved in with my two male roommates. The two of them were simply addicted to Dawson's Creek, Jack & Jill, and Friends reruns. Dawson's Creek? Jack & Jill? I made so much fun of them because I thought they were such dorks! Then they started torturing me by singing the theme song from Jack & Jill. It's horrible in the first place, but once you get those two girly men singing it, your ears will bleed.

Anyway, when the new season of Jack & Jill started, however, I just got sucked in. It's amazing! Who's the lame ass now? It's me!! Wednesday night is the worst for us geeks. We watch Dawson's Creek while taping Ed, and we watch Jack & Jill while taping Temptation Island. Geeks. We're definately geeks.

Temptation Island is quality entertainment, though. I've been rooting for Billy and Mandy, but it looks like they're not gonna make it. You know, I have to root for my fellow Atlantans. Not that there will be a winner or loser on that show, but you know what I mean. Honestly, I sit and watch it, and I feel so dirty - like I should be ashamed of myself. What a whack-job I've become!

Anyway, that's it. Those four shows and anything on HGTV. That's plenty.

I just can't watch Dawson's Creek anymore ... everytime James Van Der Beek turns up in a preview, Ginsu and I start yelling at the TV, "Who are you kidding?!? You're bald and like 30!" Drives me nuts. I do have a soft spot for Pacey, however (even though he'll always be that boy from the Might Ducks in my mind) ...

I love Freaks and Geeks. Since I don't have cable, my brother very kindly taped the episodes for me, but alas, I think we're still missing one or two eps. It makes me so sad that we'll never be able to watch any of those characters progress ... (on a side note, two weekends ago i snagged a very 80s puffy blue down vest while thrifting -- as soon as i held it up, ginsu was like, "oo, that is so kim kelly ... you have to get it"; hee hee)

I wish the cable company would realize I never ordered cable and turn my free cable off. It sucks away my will to study!
On weekdays I get totally sucked in to TLC. Right now it's Makeover story, sometimes Dating Story. I can never watch all of a Wedding Story or a Baby Story, they could be shortened to fifteen minutes.
Anyone else fascinated by how much make-overs play into daytime TV? What with Maury, Sally, Ricky, Jenny, and all!
I just thank god I don't have any friends or a mom who I could take on a "you dress so slutty I'm embarassed" show.
(Well, maybe there is one.)

Okay, just to hijack this for a second on a Freaks and Geeks tangent (a la the Buffy/music in commercials thread ) I love that Fox Family is making a big deal of it, I've heard really clever radio commercials and seen excellent print ads. I only wish that they had gotten the rights to all the music from the unaired episodes. In NYC, before Fox Family stepped to the plate, they screened the unaired ones at the Museum of TV & Radio, and at the end of "Noshing and Moshing" (Neal w/ dummy @ party angry over his dad's affair/Daniel is a punk rocker) they do the old "everyone comes together in the end" montage to the tune of "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" by Neil Young. I'm tearing up just writing about it -- it was one of the most touching but unsentimental moments I've ever seen, just beautiful. When it aired on FF, they substituted "Your Nobody Til Somebody Loves You" by Dean Martin, which just came off as jokey and lame. The scene had a whole different feel. I was very disappointed.

really? i didn't know that ... one thing that did bug me when I was watching the tapes (from Fox Family) was the way they censor the language -- I realize it's because they're a "family" station and what not, but it's still vexing. wonder if they'll ever release a Freaks and Geeks dvd, with the original versions of all episodes?

ok, I have to admit that I do not have cable, the tv sucks me in bad enough as it is!

I have fixations with Felicity (I have mentioned my crush on Mr. Speedman previously).

I have been watching Blind Date for some bizarre reason, I guess it makes me feel better about any dates I have gone on, as none have been as bad as their dates from hell! I also get into the Antiques Road Show and This Old House. Will & Grace is a given, I hope Patrick Dempesy is on for a while, such the cutie. I only watch Angel to see Wesley. I'm a dork.

Ok, flashback to h.s. and gradeschool: I always watched Degrassi Junior High, Dance Party USA, and You Can't Do That on Television. Anyone else willing to admit this? How about having a crush on Alistair from "You Can't.."? All of my friends & I did in 6th grade.

Worst shows on tv: VIP, The Cindy Margolis show. These are horrific! All T&A.

I only watch Dawson once in a while, I get a kick out of the fact that there is a character with my name. Cheesey, I know. Oh, James Van Der Beek does not have a forehead, he has an eighthead. Nice bangs, buddy.

I get so entranced by tv. It is pathetic. I tape Days of Our Lives everyday. I used to tape Oprah, but that was just too much to watch everyday and started to cut into my prime time.

Monday: Seventh Heaven, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Facts of Life and Three's Company on Nick (takes me back to my youth)

Tuesday: No really good shows except I did find City Confidential on A & E last week. That was pretty good. Facts of Life and Three's Company

Wednesday: Dawson's Creek, Felicity (when on), Drew Carey, Facts of Life and Three's Company

Thursday: Survivor/Friends, Designing for the Sexes on HGTV (I love Michael Payne), and House Hunters on HGTV.

Friday - Sunday: Varies. I usually watch The Real World on MTV if it is on.

I confess to liking to watch Baywatch. I can't explain why--my roommate thinks I am crazy but maybe its the drama of the ocean ... maybe its David Hasselhoff but I do love to watch it.

Also, I secretly watch the cheesy made-for-tv movies and usually end up crying ...

I'm such a tv timesaver! I watch both Talk Soup and Kathy's So-Called Reality and then catch the Road Rules/Real World marathon MTV sometimes shows on Sat or Sun.
The only shows I really try to catch are those forensic FBI files things on TLC/Discovery, Queer as Folk, Fashion Emergency & Jeopardy! I have to say the best thing is to be able to go between Jeopardy and Ben Stein's Money at 7:30. Cause right after Jeopardy ends, Ben Stein is just beginning that last round in the booths. Yes, I'm a big nerd!!

King of Queens
Everybody Loves Raymond
Buffy
Angel
Survivor

Also, lately my hubby and I are hooked on the Three's Company re-runs on Nick at Nite. Gotta love Mr. Furley!

And I hate to admit it, but I like to watch The Christopher Lowell Show on HGTV over my lunch hour. The guy is pretty goofy, but he has some GREAT decorating ideas...

when we *had* cable, it was all about those Forensic FBI Files/Cracking the Case/the New Detectives/whatever shows with me and my roomate. Anything with "dramatic re-enactments" is our absolute favorite. We don't have cable now, so I have resorted to badgering my boyfriend's parents (who have several of the largest televisions in captivity and more channels that I knew existed) with blank tapes and HBO scedules to keep us up on Sex and the City and the Sopranos. I haven't yet got up the nerve to ask them to tape Iron Chef; "well, son, we taped your girlfriend's dubbed kung fu fighting action cooking show for her." Ack! They already think that I am strange...

I work on Sunday nights, but I always take my break at 7 and hit the lounge to watch the Simpsons and Malcolm in the Middle...I also developed a rather distrubing Ally McBeal fixation over the first few months of this year, but that passed, thankfully.

woohoo, what a great thread... a must ad my two cents....

I must watch:
*X-files (David Ducovney..Mmmmm)
*Futurama (Kikinoir, if you liked the Simpsons when it was still in it's prime, you will love this....also by Matt Groening)
*Ally McBeal(I know, sorta shameful)
*Boston Public
*Ed (Great show, I highly recommend it)
*The West Wing (Caught it after Ed one night and then I was hooked...)
*Friends

(Wow I sound like such a TV addict...shame on me)

I like to catch:
*Malcolm in the Middle
*Will & Grace

Shows I miss since I no longer have Cable:

*The Daily Show
*Iron Chef-- (Rock on Aylee! Yay isn't it addicting? Epi wherever you are, you must watch Iron chef if you are a foodie like you say you are!!)
*Good Eats (also on the Food Network- Gives a history and interesting tibits of knowledge about a diff. food each week- then how to cook it! Cheesy but entertaining and informative)
*Sopranos-- I have never gotten to watch this but I really wish I could...

(On second thought, maybe with everything I already watch it is a good thing I don't have cable anymore..... my rabbit ears on my TV are turning me into a couch potato well enough...)

I don't have cable, but will soon! I do watch Iron Chef whenever I get the chance, though. My all-time favorite is Octopus Battle--that shot of Chen Kinichi trying to coat the live octopus in breadcrumbs as it flops all over the place made me laugh so hard I almost snarfed my soup.

I agree with you about Good Eats, as well. Brilliant stuff. I loved that cookie episode where he had the dorky puppet giving cookie lessons like some old British Colonel from Her Maejesty's Royal India Core discussing Hannibal's tactics. He's a nut.

I like syndicated reruns of cancelled shows. They're, uh, romantic somehow because of the cancellation. They're also comfortingly finite, unlike soap operas. So I've devoted much time to Freaks and Geeks and Sports Night. I'm also guilty of watching the seemingly infinite reruns of 90210 -- has anyone seen the pilot recently? God, it made me feel like I'm fifty!

Umm I watch so much tv it is unhealthy, and my boyfriend thinks I am nuts:

Never Miss:
-7th Heaven (ugh, so wholesome, I know)
-Roswell (I jumped up & down when I found out that UPN picked it up)
-Buffy
-Angel
-Dawson's Creek (I don't know why, but I can't stop)
-Friends
-Simpsons
-ER

Usually Watch:
-Jack & Jill/Felicity
-Malcolm in the Middle
-Gilmore Girls
-Star Trek Voyager & Next Generation
-X Files
-Emergency Vet
-The Jeff Corwin Experience (he is so cute!)
-Mad About You reruns

Horrible, I know, but they are all so funny and/or comforting, hehe.
I have weaned myself off Blind Date though. My boyfriend made too much fun of me.

I love most of the foodtv shows: Ming Tsai, Alton Brown, food 911 guy, Sarah Moulton,... except for Emeril (can't stand him) yet his shows are on more than anyone else. Can't miss Buffy although it jumps the shark since she went to college, but cannot stop myself, Angel (S.O. actually likes that show better than Buffy), West Wing, Law & Order reruns, like to catch the Gilmore Girls in rerun but it seems to be on different nights, Survivor (not as vigilant as with the first one).

I only have basic cable so have not seen Soprano, but saw Sex in the City and Six Feet Under on business trips. I would get hooked on Six feet under if I have HBO, so it is a good thing, I guess.

I used to watch Star Trek: Voyager fairly regularly and caught the first 3 episodes of Enterprise. Since then I'ven't watched any TV at all. Even when I was watching those shows I didn't watch anything else (except disaster coverage for 9/11). Sometimes I stick in a tape or DVD or video game, but I think the total amount of time I spend infront of the TV is 4-10 hours a month. (I don't have cable and I actually get super bored watching TV (books are better), that I don't plan to get it.) Now the time spent in front of a computer monitor is so much higher (~250 - 300 hours/month)!
