In the spirit of the nourish thread, a place for all your body questions that don't seem quite worthy enough to have their own thread.
So does your period really "stop" when you are in the shower/pool/bath or is that just an old wive's tale?

I think that's a myth, because I've never seen my blood in a pool - but I've seen it in the tub.

I want to know about cuts. Now - if I cut my finger - sometimes it bleeds (because it's near a vein) and sometimes - it doesn't. Why doesn't it? Isn't all my tissue fed by blood? I'm confused.

I don't know if this works, but....
"To lighten dark circles under your eyes, wrap a grated raw potato in cheesecloth and apply to eyelids for 15-20 minutes.
Wipe off the residue and apply an eye cream."

I think they're genetic, LaM; at least that's what I've heard. Your best bet may just be to find a really good concealer. Sorry to be the naysayer

The dark circles are also sometimes a sign of allergies or anemia.

Oh, and the period stopping thing has not been medically proven, though many women swear it happens to them. I know from experience that NOTHING will stop my flow when the time comes. I'm thinking this is mostly believed by women with very light flows who can't tell they are bleeding while they are in the water.

About the under eye thing, I heard that if you sleep at a slight angle rather then flat on yer back it makes your eyes a little less puffy.

My question: Why has WW3 suddenly broken out on my chin? Seriously I have about 6-7 spots there. I havent changed my cleansing routine Im not using make up Ive cleaned all my phones and make sure I dont rest my chin on my hand. It just looks gross like Ive been trying to shave but gotten a nasty beard rash!

Fluff, did you change your toothpaste? That has made me break out around my mouth when I use certain brands. I guess that would require a slightly crazy brushing for it to get to the chin, but it's a thought. I think that's what is making me break out around my mouth right now. bleh. so, I am switching yet AGAIN.

Sensitive facial skin is such a b!tch.

Yes - toothpaste does this to me too. I currently also have ww3 on my chin and have no idea why (haven't changed toothpastes in a long time). But I find that any whitening toothpastes do this to me. I have to use your normal run of the mill paste.
Although now that ww3 is on my face - I wonder if I should switch again.

It seems like I'll buy a new deodorant and it will work really well... for about 2 weeks. Then I won't stink, but I'll perspire a lot. So I'll buy a new one that I think will work better, and same cycle. Do my armpits get used to the new deodorant?

Ridged nails can be a sign that you're deficient in some vitamins and minerals, mainly iron (especially if your nailbeds are also really pale) and sometimes some B vitamins. You might want to take a multivitamin and see if that makes 'em go away, or get tested for anaemia (low iron) next time you go in for a checkup.

I get them sometimes, but they go away when I eat red meat more often.

I sweat way more out of my right armpit than my left. Why?
I use the same secret on both pits!

And why do I have one, single, black pubic looking hair that grows out of my shoulder?

Nope, I use one that's both antipersperant and deodorant.

Another one that I'm almost embarrassed to admit: I have 3 hairs that grow only on my right boob that I continually pluck. Please tell me I'm not the only one with boob hair!

Most of the women I know, usually when drunk and outside of the earshot of men, will admit to plucking a few boob hairs. Mine are on my left boob. Hey, between us, we have a perfect pair of boobs!

As for your deodorant/anti-perspirant problem...
I had the same problem for years. I don't think I went a day w/o pit stains from puberty until I finally switched to the deodorant crystal. After a few months, I stopped being a constant sweat hog. I have no real scientific explantion... One fo my theories is that the anti-perspirant manufacturers put something in their products to make people sweat more so they'll use more and buy more, just like some of the lip balm companies. Another one is that the body overcompensates when it is prohibited from performing such a basic need as sweating. Regardless, I urge you to swear off anti-perspirant for a few months and invest in a natural deodorant like the crystal or Tom's of Maine.

I have a blue vein that runs right under my eye and my skin also has semi-dark circles- BUT you would never be able to tell because I use the magic of E$tee L@auder "double wear" concealer it's kind of pricey (18$)for the little bottle but it's awesome, and it never comes off, even when sweating. So I always seem to look "fresh"

I realize that you were looking for a more homeopathic solution to the problem, but I just wanted to share what works for me

heheh! I remember being wasted at a party and admitting to doing this to a girlfriend of mine, who laughed her ass off. I also remember saying "You know, I'm only telling you this because I'm drunk."

There used to just be one. now there are three. Let us pray that this trend does not continue.

I also have the adaptive deodorant problem. I have to switch brands all the time. I sweat a lot- I've tried crystal deodorant & whatnot, but my supersweat glands overcame it it about 3 minutes.

I also can't wear any cutesy girly shirts that have the little teeny cap sleeves that go up in your armpit. They cause my armpits to sweat about 5x more than usual. Cutesy girly shirts are no longer cute when you have a hugemongous pit stain.

Ahhhh, such a delicate flower I am.......

When I was in HS, I had this problem too. I started using Cert@in Dr! because it kept that from happening (it's advertised as a product for people with superhydrosis or something). Anyway, after I used it for a while, I quit having the problem. I think because my hormones started balancing themselves out or something. Or maybe because I lost weight. But it worked for me.

I think I might've used that....I used 2 different kinds of supermegadeodorant that actually worked really well - so well, I guess, that they completely clogged up all the pores in there, because both made my armpits break out quite disgustingly. I never can win with my armpits.

Ok, I didn't explain sufficiently. You must deal with the sweat spots for a while, weeks or even months, before your body stops producing obscene amounts of sweat. IF you're sweating through all of the anti-perspirants anyway, you might as well try my experiment! Unless you mean that your smell overcame the crystal. In which case I have no advice, but I do wonder if you are a frequent poster in the "sniff me" thread...

About undereye circles...yeah, sometimes it's genetic and there's not much you can do except use concealer. All the same, here's a home remedy...brew some chamomile tea, then put the tea bags in the freezer and put them over your eyes for about 10 minutes when they're good and cold. The cold helps de-puff and chamomile is a great lightening ingredient.

Also, about the WW3 chin breakouts...how close are you to your cycle? Chin breakouts are generally hormonal. Hate to say it, but I noticed I stopped getting them once I cut down on caffeine...like I still have my coffee in the morning, but I stopped drinking pop completely and pretty much just drink water or decaffeinated iced tea.

No, I just meant that I got so uncomfortably sweaty that I gave up on it. I don't stink so much, I just can't stand to be really sweaty. Perhaps I'll try again, now that it's undershirt/sweater season......

I use Certain Dri and recommend it to anyone who will listen. I LOVE it. For some reason I have a horrible sweating problem and I am very self conscious about any sweat rings and this has solved my problem. I can't really think of any questions right now but I am sure I will be back with some.

I pretty much don't sweat at all, but my right armpit acts like it's never heard of deodorant. Since I was about 21, I'd say. Doesn't matter what kind of deodorant/antiperspirant I use (tried'em all, including the crystal and men's)Doesn't matter how many coats I apply. My right pit has a mind of its own. I just keep my arm down and hope for the best.

Regarding the crystal thing: do I really have to use it for a number of months before it activates and works? I got one a while back, but because it didn't work immediately, I gave up on it (instant gratification at its finest )

Also, regarding the nipple hairs, gross. I pluck on a weekly basis. It doesn't help that I'm italian; I hate them regardless. I'm also the fabulous recipient of chin hairs. Never had them in my 20s, but in the past few years, wtf.

I invested in a good pair of 'precision tools' (as we call them round these parts, with my 30something friends ) They make excellent stocking stuffers

I have the undereye problem too. I'm gonna try out that estee l@uder stuff!

I've got both the nipple hairs (I pluck the dark, but leave the thin blonde ones because it's too much of a hassle and the boy doesn't mind) and the chin hair (only on a beauty spot, and they're mostly transparent, but thick)

BUT there must be some form of justice in beauty world, because I barely ever sweat (and when I do, I don't smell unless I'm stressed) I still wear antiperspirant just in case, but it's more a question of principle. Which reminds me that I should switch to crystal. My boy only uses that and he smells delicious, so it must be working right?

bekkaboo - i have the same problem with those little shirts.. and with dress shirts, I feel like i look at one and start sweating.

Yesterday I went so far to stick panty liners in my arm pits so I could wear a cute dress shirt. It sorta worked... you would think that armpits would be unable to pick which type of shirt it liked the best!

If you find that you are sweaty more than smelly, try applying powder in addition to deodorant. It helps absorb the moisture and keep it off your clothes. I always have baby powder on hand for myself, particularly in the summer.

I have the crystal deodorant. I use the roll-on. I was really dubious and bought a backup of the other kind as well, but the crystal is much better for me. It also helps to use tea tree oil soap, which can help reduce the bacteria that make you stinky. I swear I thought this stuff was only for people who are philosophically opposed to the other stuff, but I promise it can be better.

Uh, yeah, nipple/chin hair. I guess the tradeoff for having thick hair on one's head often is being generally hairy elsewhere. Ugh.

The black Irish contingent weighing in on unsightly chin/nipples/Lord knows where else hair. Gotta love fair skin/dark hair.

My sister and I were both seriously considering asking our parents for laser hair removal on our Christmas list. Our youngest sister is so lucky she's adopted (and blonde) in that respect.

And my theory regarding shirts that make me sweat more is that the material is cut too close in the armpit, as I have the same problem with dress shirts, capped-sleeved shirts, etc.
