This thread makes me want to cry! More!

I had sinus surgery in November to cure the crippling pain in my face. The surgeon says it worked but it still hurts. (I think he is in denial - shhh...don't tell him.)

I have been using the NeillMed sinus rinse three times a day for about four months now and must say that it works like nothing else for keeping the passages clear. I would have gone insane by now without it.

Anyway, no advice to offer but it feels better to whine to those who might actually understand.

I have developed sinus headaches over the last year and am finding them hell. Basically it means I have a permenant headache plus dull ache over the cheekbones. My doctor prescribed some antibiotics which really helped, but only for about 2 weeks and then the pain returned. He also recommended I use a nasal spray, the same kind I use for hayfever in the summer, this kind of helps but doesn't have that much effect. I have noticed that they get worse with stress and in smokey atmospheres so I am trying to avoid both of these. Steam inhalation also helps but doesn't cure. Can anyone who suffers with this give me some tips? Also has anyone here had surgery to clean out gunked up sinuses, my doctor mentioned it but suggested it was more harm than it was worth (but as this is the UK and he is an NHS doctor I don't know if he was saying that to fob me off from having a procedure far more expensive than a lifetime's supply of antibiotics)?

My dad had sinus headaches for years - he had the surgery about three or four months ago and said it was the best thing he'd ever done. He said he hadn't realised how badly he'd been sleeping until after the surgery, when he started sleeping really deeply at night.

I had some of my mucus membranes removed because I get bad hayfever. Again, I would recommend it to anyone. I used to have a balled-up tissue pressed to my nose 24 hours a day, but now my hayfever is much less virulent when I do get it. No more rivers of snot for me

I would definitely get a second opinion if I were you. Did your doctor say why he thought it would be more trouble than it was worth?

Thanks for the info. My doctor says basically that it causes loads of pain and is a very invasive procedure. Two of my friends had it in childhood which caused them a lot of pain and they still get sinus pain, but to be honest I am willing to try anything. I think I will demand a referral to an ear nose and throat specialist, though the waiting list could be long.

Catherine, actually, from what I've read (and perhaps your doc hasn't!) the surgical procedure is far less invasive these days than it used to be. They use lasers now and can "get in there" without...um...opening up your face quite so much.

There's a product you may want to try in the meantime called "Sinufix." I believe there's a link that Bekkaboo posted on the previous page of this thread to order it. My fiance J has major sinus issues, as does Bekkaboo, and the Sinufix seems to help, as long as you take it religiously. And there's no weird drugs in it.

ETA: Here is the link to the Sinufix. Which remimnds me I need to order more.

Hee. I totally didn't post that b/c I know I sound like a commercial for that stuff every time someone posts about sinus pain -- I do think it really helps, tho.

I ordered some Sinufix before Christmas via the link to the yahoo shop posted on this thread and am yet to receive my goods. When looking up the email address to contact them earlier today I noticed that a lot of users had given them a bad review, mentioning the fact the goods never arrived. Have any digsters had these problems, if so what did you do?

Catherinemm, I've never had any problems w/them and their delivery time is usually pretty good. Maybe it was held up by the holidays?
I'd drop them an email to see what's going on.

I've ordered a few times through them and never had a problem -- I've never tried to contact them, though, as my stuff has always shown up on time.

Regarding Sinus Pain....
I'm cured! After suffering for many years with "wake up in the morning and suffer all day" pain, and having taken numerous medications, a SIMPLE TRAVEL PILLOW (the "U"-shaped kind that you blow up) has cured me! It worked immediately, apparently allowing my sinuses to drain during the night (I also now use two pillows to prop myself up slightly -- but it may not work if you like to sleep on your stomach). It's been almost two months now without ANY sinus headaches! I guess when we sleep we get ourselves into such contorted positions that it's no wonder our sinuses can't drain and our necks get stiff. Please try it. Anything's worth trying to finally get a restful night's sleep and pain-free day! Good luck!

well the guy who sold the sinufix took my money, closed his yahoo store and is long gone. yahoo says they can't do anything about it, and i have to sort it out with my credit card company to (maybe) get my money back. ugh.

Ugh, that really sucks, Quarkiegirl. Sorry for leading you down Ken's Powersucky path.

Here's where I've gotten it (and many other items) with no problem and great customer service.

I recently got J the S!nufix spray and he seems to like it - supposedly it's non-addictive.
