Today is Wednesday and I'm going out on Saturday. A monster zit is in the early stages of formation under my nose. I've applied a hot compress and face mask, and it's a little better, but still there. Any other suggestions? IP: Logged |

Overnight patches like Neutrogena's are great for the biggies. Might take a couple nights but they tend to do the trick. IP: Logged |

I'm in love with Clean & Clear's gel stuff - I can't remember what it's called but it has salycilic acid in it, so it's not horrifyingly drying and won't leave you with that "ring" of dry skin around where the zit used to be. Other than that, Origins makes great concealer. Just don't pick at it! IP: Logged |

I recently bought a tube of Clean & Clear (I think--blue tube) cover-up with acne medicine in it. I used a regular acne creme at night and that during the day, re-applied a few times over the course of the day, and that stuff WORKED. Also Queen Helene's Mint Julep Mask. That stuff will pull ANYTHING out of your pores. IP: Logged |

Sometimes a dab of toothpaste can help dry a zit out, but it can be drying to the surrounding skin. Might not be too bad to try this early in the week though. The next day, I'll usually put Neosporin on it just to combat dryness/infection. I don't know if it actually helps though. Green concealer will hide any remaining redness! IP: Logged |

ooh thanks! I just heard that about the green concealer! Who'd a thunk?? I might just try all of your methods. Can't go wrong in doing too much, I don't think. IP: Logged |

I've heard that Visine will take the redness out of a zit . It will still be there, but won't be noticable maybe? I haven't tried it yet but it sounds like it may work in theory. IP: Logged |

Probably should start a new thread as this is pretty irrelevant, but MissMel just reminded me of something I heard once, that you can use Preparation-H to get rid of puffy bags under your eyes (as well as other things.) IP: Logged |

Coming into this late but Tea tree oil works great. Dab it on with a q tip so as you dont transfer any more oil from your fingers to the area. If it hasnt broken the surface yet Id recommend using an ice cube to cool and shrink it down IP: Logged |

Re: tea tree oil: you can get it at any health food store and probably at most pharmacies. Just be careful...a little goes a LONG way. and it's got a potent aroma, not bad, just potent. I have also used pure lavender oil, just a drop, to clear up my face. unfortunately, the zit was right near my nose and I could not escape the smell of lavender all day. IP: Logged |

I just saw the Preperation-H trick in the movie Tortilla Soup the other night Has anyone had luck with the Visine trick? It's never worked for me.

Ive heard too that Prep H works great for eyebags but it kinda creeps me out putting that on one end of my body when its meant for the other! Nieci I buy my tea tree oil from the body shop dunno if you have that where you are. They have a special blemish stick with a spongy applicator which works great. I second the Lavender oil as well its a great antiseptic for spots and cuts even if it does smell a little old ladyish. IP: Logged |

I read somewhere that Preparation H is the most frequently stolen item from drugstores, b/c heroin users apply it to their track marks. IP: Logged |

Gah speaking of spots A couple of angry looking suckers have sprung up on my chin time of month and all that but one is just slightly below my lipline. Its starting to throb (you know that horrible way that the gigantic ones do)and my lips is swollen. Nice. On with the tea tree oil.. IP: Logged |

Bump. Augh, I have the world's biggest zit on my back and it is KILLING me. Like, i can't sit back in my chair because it hurts so much. Anyone ever had one of those? Aside from paying the boyfriend to pop it, what can I do? I can't even see the damn thing!! IP: Logged |

Hmmm... Drea D sounds like she'd be more than happy to come over and help (see the new thread "Eww!" in Outside World). Other than that, no suggestions except maybe a hot washcloth would help it feel a little better.

For one on your back, get someone to check to see that its not an ingrown hair. My bf had one that started out looking like a zit, resulted in an infection that required mega-antibiotics to get rid of. Other then that...take a hot bath, if nothing else it'll feel good

sorry ladies, as probably all you know, I dont know muvh about much (hehe, yes Im a dits), but whats a hot compress? and for the neosporin and tooth paste method, I would think that would break the face out more than anything.. hmm I might have to try it. What brand of tooth paste do you use for it Nessa? whats the mud mask and patch? Also how many times a week do you use those kind of masks (the one mentioned in italics, and the Mint Julep one)? Here's what I use for my face, and it works SOOOOO good (that is when I'm not lazy and I wash my face): 1)Scrub my face with Apricot Scrub and I put it on my fingers then rub it on my face then I use a face sponge to scrub lightly with then rinse off with warm wash cloth; 2)I cut an Aspirin Gel Cap in half and put in all over my face avoiding my eyes then I add warm water to my face and massage lightly until it starts to turn whitish (and it'll have a stingy-burning sensation a little so dont be alarmed), then when I cant take the sensation anymore I wash it off with a warm wash cloth. Then I splash my face about 3-4 times with cool-cold water, then pat-dry my face; 3) (DURING THE DAY) I put a spot treatment from Eckerds on it, then ProActiv Oil-Free Moisturizer. (AT NIGHT) I cut a Vitamin E gel cap (its like a honey-looking, sticky substance hehe its not as gross as it sounds) in half and put it all over my face (avoiding my eyes), and I massage it a little, and I go to sleep with it on, then wake up in the morning and wash it off when I wash my face. IT WORKS REALLLLLYYY GOOD ladies! When I first heard of it, I was soo skeptical to try it, I was like noo wayy am I doin that to my face, but man I am soo glad now that I did. This is the clearest my face has been in years. [This message has been edited by tasha (edited 11-11-2004).] [This message has been edited by tasha (edited 11-11-2004).] IP: Logged |

A lot of companies sell 'zit poppers' that will pop your zit safely. You can also go to a derm to get it done, professionally. The one in the derms office looks a bit like a melonballer, except much smaller with a little hole in it. You put the hole above the pore and press down, and it squeezes the gunk out. I know that a KM@rt I was in had one that didn't look like the mellonballer, I'm not sure about other drugstores. This only works for whiteheads, not the deep, red, hard ones. For the one on the back, this may sound weird, but depending on how it looks, a B!oire pore strip may work. If it's a clogged pore/pus-y sucker, then a strip will get all the gunk out. If its one of those hard, red bumps, a derm can usually do something about it, but you shouldn't {aside from putting gel and stuff on it} I'm on two cremes for terrible acne; Duac {for the hard, red under skin zits} and Tazoric {something like that} for little white head bumpies. I'm incredibly clear now, esp when compared to years ago. You may want to make a derm appointment and have them prescribe something for you that you can use around your period, or just to have on hand. I think what I use is designed to work on a long term basis, but there may be stuff out there that clears your skin up right away. I'm almost positive what I'm on has an effect on bean-development, so mention it to the doctor if you're preggers or trying to be {I'm a college girl, not in a relationship and the doctor who prescribed it to me didn't mention this, but recently a doc said "Yeah. This stuff wouldn't be so good for you if you're pregnant". Hmm, thanks!}. IP: Logged |

After washing your face, use Witch Hazel on a cotton pad to dry it out. Then follow up with a good salicylic acid cream like Clean and Clear. I've heard toothpaste works well, too, but I've never tried it. Good luck!! IP: Logged |

what is witch hazel? where can i get that? i was wondering if anyone knew of any remedies that i could use that would already be around the house. and to make matters worse. when i woke up this morning most of the swelling went down, but since i slept on my side, it all went under my eye. i seriously look like i was in a fight. its puffy and purple. what can i do to get rid of that. so far i have put ice and prep H on my zit. swelling went down, except now i have a black eye, also it is red around the zit, does vizine really get the red out?! I notice this is a female site and I'm a guy. I punched up zit removal in Google and ended up here lookin for some suggestions. I seen a couple posts about huge zits, and I have one of those. Kinda like the one where the swelling went to the eye. Well I got one on the bridge of my nose on the side, and it swelled up so bad that my eye is nearly shut. I been putting alcohol and peroxide on it numerous times throughout everyday following with some zit cream that has 10% benzoyl peroxide in it. this sucker only seems to be getting bigger. I would like to have my other eye back! So, anyone wanna help me out with making this thing go away any faster? I get these damn things every once in a while, and I have minor acne.

it's not entirely a female site - we have guys around here too. Unfortunately - I can't offer advice on zit removal right now - was actually posting to find help on the monster one that has taken up residency on the side of my chin. It's huge and it hurts. I've been doing the tea tree oil stuff to no avail. I don't want to pop it - since it's a big one & will probably make it worse - but ouch! IP: Logged |

Meggo and DJ, is it under the skin? If it is, I'd say avoid popping. But if there's a head I'd be unable to avoid the temptation. I get those too sometimes, it seems when I have one I get others in the same area. I think I remember Gemini saying that she went on antibiotics for those once which seems to be the best option, since it's a chonic infection under the skin. I've never tried it though. Icing it sometimes makes me feel better and brings down the swelling a bit. I'll also use a little Ne0sp0rin under makeup and before bed, to combat infection and try to keep the post-acne treatment dry skin at bay. IP: Logged |

It's under the skin - believe me - if I saw anything worth popping - I'd be doing it! I put tea tree on last night - I'll try neosporin today - that usually clears it up - but it's hard and sore.... I wish I could stop getting zits - for crying out loud I've already celebrated the fifth anniversary of my 25th birthday! IP: Logged |
