Have you tried the overnight patches (Neutrogena comes to mind) on the big ones? Those have worked well for me... IP: Logged |

I had a giant one in the middle of my forehead yesterday. I have found a great mask, overnight goop. It is from the Zia line that I see in the healthfood, natural stores like Wh*ole F**ds. It is a sulfer mask. I put a big glop on last night and slept with it on, and this morning it is MUCH smaller and less painful. IP: Logged |

Ladies, I have those huge cystic zits under my skin. It seems that everything I use on my face to try and clear it up, is turning all my zits into those huge under the skin cystis ones. I'm getting really really depressed about the way my face is treating me. It just keeps getting worse and worse. Any tips to get rid of those big cystis zits? It wouldn't bother me so much if all my zits were the small on top of the skin ones that can be popped and dried up. I really need some help. I want to go to a Dermatologist or an Aesthician (I have no idea how to spell that word sorry guys), but I have no money whatsoever. Like my b@nk @ccount is maxed out, completely dried up. So any tips to get rid of them, I'll love all you ladies forever. Thanks for listening to my venting too. I'm really in the pits these days. edited to add that I've tried a few of the remedies in this thread. I need something that's going to get under my skin to them. the only thing I've found that helps is prescription medicine - the one I get is a benzoyl peroxide cream & erythyromycin gel mixture and has to be refridgerated. Really knocks them out, though. They do have a generic of it now, so that helps with the price, a little. I'm assuming if you have to save up, you're not covered by insurance? I wasn't for most of high school, was fortunate enough to be able to get it through my college once I got there. IP: Logged |

if you take antibiotics like @mooxocillin (spelling? i dont know) ive found that that works pretty well -although i know that doesnt really help the cost issue -i was thinking maybe you could get it cheap if you said you needed it for like a cold or some common sickness like that -who knows...i dont know much about how to get around pescriptions but that *might* work IP: Logged |

tasha, sorry to hear you're having bad times with your skin. I can truly understand where you're coming from with the cystic acne. If you have health insurance, it will cover doctor's visits, probably even a dermatologist once you get a referral from your primary doctor. Most likely you would be prescribed something you put onto your skin like Retin-A or Tazorac but it is heavy duty stuff that turns you red and might make you peel. Some doctors will prescribe a benzoyl peroxide/antibiotic cream because it is cheaper and gentler than what I mentioned before. There are also oral antibiotics which were mentioned by the previous poster, probably erythromycin, tetracycline, minocycline or doxycycline (they ARE NOT the same as penicillin or amoxicillin that you might get to treat strep throat). Hang in there. I would recommend mild cleanser and benzoyl peroxide for now and try to see your doctor. SOAPBOX: Please do not take antibiotics to treat a cold. Colds are caused by viruses. Taking antibiotics when you don't need them will make them ineffective when you do. IP: Logged |

I really really wish I had health insurance, especially since i have hyperthyroidism and need to be treated with r@dio@ctive iod!ne. I mean it's pathetic, I had medic@id, and they took me off of it, but yet I am trying to finish school, and can't work full time. I actually had to stop working to dedicate more time to my studies. Now SO and I are really hurting. It really makes me sick. hey cool0110- what benzoyl peroxide product do you recommend? and if you could recommend a mild cleanser also, that's be much appreciated. thanks ladies [This message has been edited by tasha (edited 03-01-2005).] IP: Logged |

Hmm, now that I think about it, I got my prescription from my primary care doctor, so you might not even need to see a derm. Have you investigated clinics in your city? I know there are some which charge fees on a sliding scale based on income around here. IP: Logged |
|
tasha Housemate |
we have free clinics, but they only see you if it's like a medical thing. Whenever I first moved donw here, I went to one, and they paid for my expensive meds for my thyroid, and I had to pay for the cheaper one. But if I go back there, they are going to want to have me do the whole process over. I saw an indocrinologist, and he said that I need to get that r@dio@ctive iod!ne. The first time, just to get on my meds at that free clinic, it took almost a month. Thats a hassel I don't want to go through. But I think my indocrinologist said that the 0U Medical Center can't turn people away, and since this is like an emergency, that thet might do my treatments with me not having insurance. I think I'm going to talk to my boyfirend and see if he can call there today while I'm in school, and see what they say. But anyways, the suki's naturals starter kit, has really improved clarity, tone, and texture of my skin. But I rean out of the lemongrass cleanser. They are all just about sample size. I don't have any money, and I don't know if SO will pay for it for me. I'm real sorry to ramble on about stuff that don't go in this thread. forgive me IP: Logged |

not to go off on a tangent here, but I just want to second what Merimoo said. I know 2 people who had to have surgery on there thyroid and it is not pleasant at all. IP: Logged |

I hear what you are saying ladies. I am going to check into something. So does anyone have a remedy that gets rid of the cystic zits. Any proven remedies? IP: Logged |

i only ever get zits there and usually find putting tooth paste on it over night (usually one but sometimes more nights) does the trick or spraying it with a strong perfume regularly through out the day to dry it out. Once it's dry i use a little extra vaseline or moisturiser. IP: Logged |

i've been also getting a zit on my nose.. my face is pretty clear with no acne, but occaisonal zits on my nose... Right now its almost about to bloom, i have tried queen helene mint julep mask as a spot treatment, but doesn't seem to be working. I am looking into the toothpaste and tea tree oil. ( what kind of brand of toothpaste should it be? i only have aquafresh at home, and where can i get tea tree oil?) IP: Logged |

Those to methods were too strong for my face, so I turned to using salt and milk of magnesium. The salt metehod is really great. I used it for about a week and it got rid of all my blackheads too. If you would like to try the salt method, just let me know and I'll post it. But I would try the tea tree oil and tooth paste methods first, just because they tend to do a short term effect, they are strong and they tend to get rid of the zits faster most of the time. Just make sure that you don't put the tea tree oil straight on your face, b/c it will burn your skin. Mix a little with your face cream or dilute it with some water in the palm of your hand, or you could even mix like a drop or two of it with a teaspoon of aloe vera. IP: Logged |

you guys, if you have cysts, you must resist the urge to pop it. Don't even touch them. If you mess with them, you can pop them underneath the skin. If that happens, you just get a bigger, badder zit. For my skin care, I use the Clinique 3-step regimen. There is a soap, toner, and moisturizer. If you are religious with using this twice a day, you will get so few zits! Tasha- what is the salt method? does anyone have anything for those stupid lingering zits? I am a model and I get these ones around my lips and mouth that just won't ever really go away. they just hang around like... (okay, I can't think of anything witty) they just won't give up. I need to get rid of this! [This message has been edited by browneyedgirl (edited 03-30-2005).] IP: Logged |

quote: OK. Use the salt method for about a week straight (morning and night), and then twice a week for a really great natural exfoliator. Then what I also thought was helpful, was to get my face a little wet (with timid water). Take a cooton ball and apply milk of m@gnesium to your face and sleep in it. And then just rinse it off in the morning febore you wash your face. It's really great also. I know quite a few things you could for your skin to help it clean up. I am about to start a modeling career and have done *tons* of research over the skin and what's good for it and what's not. There's just so much, that I don't want to post it on the boards. Also the best toothpaste to use is baking soda and peroxide. It does tend to overdry after a few uses. If you really do need some advice/tips/help with your skin, my email is on my profile (the little card looking icon with the face at the top of this post). I use Neutr0gena Clear P0re 0n-the-Sp0t when I have zits. It's a benzoyl peroxide product that you put right on the zit itself. It says to use twice a day, but I find that if you apply it once, the zit goes away by the next day. Or use it before the zit is fully there, and you don't even get it. I've had the tube for quite awhile, so the price shouldn't be that bad considering how long it lasts. (I don't remember the actual price). IP: Logged |
