2 weeks ago? So sad! Had I known, I would've run down to say my goodbyes. That place provided me with lots of good boy scoping in my youth.

I live in Milford now, and have to drive to Lewes. @ 20 miles. Should take me, I dunno, an HOUR?!?!

Tags, have you checked on eBay for tshirts and/or decals? I remember seeing auctions for large lots of old decals.

It's race weekend in Dover. RVs and tents as far as the eye can see. I live about 2 minutes from the racetrack. Joy.

polly- i have a question for you- we are trying to get prices on putting an additon onto our house, do you know of any reputable builders/contracters in our area? our house was prefab in the 70's and we were wondering if it would be cheaper to add more prefab? your the real estate girl, help!!

I'd have to ask my dad about builders down in the Fenwick area. i don't really know anyone over the state line.
Unless the prefab company that made your house is still in business and makes additions for your model, i don't know that it would be any easier to go that way than stick-built on-site.
I'll ask my dad when I see him. I only personally know one builder and he's way up in Greenwood, DE. I don't know if he'd go that far.
BTW, it's nice to see you here again! How has everything else been?

no, our home company is out of business. we are trying to weigh the options- wait and buy a bigger house, or add on. i dont know. i am torn.

I have been so busy since we moved, the house has been a lot of work, im getting married in 3 months so that has been crazy planning, work is crazy, my grandmother was sick and died, i have been back and forth to NYC. ugh. I am so glad to be staying in town this weekend

How are you? Have you checked out the Cape Market in rehobo? Is it cheap cheap? Is it crappy?? I want to check it out, i am always looking for cool/cheap furniture to fix etc.

what else is new? I read you got engaged.. CONGRATS!!! If you want to talk planning or anything, let me know!!

I'm sure I'll definitely want to talk wedding shop soon. Right now we are trying to control our ever-growing guest list, and trying to find a venue to accommodate.

Still haven't been to Cape Market since my mom told me it was no good. There's a thrift store in Lewes/Midway, called New Life Thrift Shop, that I love, and they have lots of furniture, and great prices. I've been going there since high school on a regular basis. There's also a great store on the way to Denton, MD. I'd have to find out the name and exact location of it, but they have lots of used furniture.
Another good day trip would be up DE Route 13, hitting the flea markets (Bargain Bill Shore's Flea Market and Route 13 Market in Laurel, several thrift stores on the way North, and the thrift stores in Dover.
I don't know names or addresses but I know there's a crapload of thrift stores in the Salisbury area too.

Re: your house: Have you checked with planning/zoning to make sure that they will approve the addition? Do you need the extra room? Do you have any idea if putting on the addition will be worth itself in market value (ie. will you be able to sell the house for that much more $ because of the addition? Would it be worth it? Would you break even, make more, etc.?)

I'm really sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I'd love to hear more about your wedding plans.

yea, we have thought about the benefits of the additon- it would def. add to the value of our house. the location of the house is hot and the value of the property is high, so a bigger house would def. make a hugh price difference. plus adding a second floor would give the house bay and ocean views ($$$$) we dont need the space right now, but we are planning on having kids in the next few years and we will be needing the space.

have you started planning the wedding? ours is in NJ and it is getting hectic now living down here and planning, but we only have 3 months left and the wedding is here. the guest list is the hardest part of the entire process- you find people crawling out of the woodwork who want to be invited and the list gets out of hand. you have to cut cut cut and dont look back!! do you know what kind of wedding you want? we are having a big, fancy shcmancy thing, and although i am excited for it-- i can see why people have small intimate laid back weddings!!

Yea i have to hit up the flea markets and thrift shops in the area, everytime i pass cape market i think i would like to go in, but i am usually in a hurry-- then i also think that your mom said it was crappy so i dont go

have you started looking for wedding locations? are you catholic? if so are you planning on a church? if you are trust me do that first- i have had nothing but problems with the church thus far!

we just ordered out invitations- i looked in DE at one place but they wanted $1400!!!!!! i found ones i liked at a printer close to home and they only cost $400. things like that are easy to save on. I have a lot of shortcuts if you need them!

ohh the joys of wedding planning.

As for the house, just double check with zoning before you invest too much money in it. Around here they sometimes have height restrictions, as well as min/max size restrictions, and in a lot of places you are only allowed to rebuild on the original "footprint" of the structure, even if you tear the whole thing down.
If you're planning to build upwards, as opposed to outwards, I hate to say it, but check out pricing for just totally rebuilding versus adding a second floor, because you may find that they're closer than you think, and the market value of a BRAND-NEW HOUSE is much higher than a renovated house with a brand new second floor.

We're actually working on the guest list right now. It's gonna be a big wedding b/c we both have extended families. Which I don't mind, but I'm kinda bummed b/c some of the venues we've liked best so far just can't handle that kind of crowd.

As for churches: My mom is Jewish, and my dad is Catholic. I was raised Catholic but I am sooooo not Catholic, and I have no desire whatsoever to be married in the Catholic Church (although I mean no offense at all!)
J is Unitarian. His uncle is a Unitarian minister and we are hoping he will perform the ceremony. If the wedding ends up taking place upstate, we may have the ceremony at the Unitarian chapel. If not, it won't take place in a chapel, which leads to us really really trying to find a venue that can host both the ceremony and the reception. We want to do the whole thing indoors b/c really, with my luck, we'd have a hurricane on our wedding day, and I just don't want to deal with Acts of God (disastrous ones) screwing things up, and then having us crowded inside somewhere.
We're thinking a November 2005 date, so the weather will be nice but cool, and the chances of a storm that time of year are pretty good. So inside it is.
Bekkaboo is going to do the invitations through her work (printing/advertising/publishing place) so I'm really hoping she can get us a good deal. We'll be doing the engagement announcements and save-the-date cards ourselves, so that will save $.
I'd love any shortcuts/money-saving advice you've come up with. If it's too long to post, email me (pollyhyper AT yahoo DOT com)
and be sure to stop in to the "Wedding Mania 2" thread!

Hello poor sad little delaware thread.

Violet and I are coming down your way and I was wondering if anyone was up for a meetup. I'll actually be in PA for a few days and then in Saulisbury, MD, but that's close enough, right?

So will anyone be around on SUnday, Oct 24th??

Where were you thinking of?
And I'll mention to J, too. I'm sure he'd love to see you...but he may be intimidated by participating in a Digsmeet.
I'll check and get back to ya.
Bekkaboo, will your move be over by then or will you be right in the middle of it?

sorry guys, I did come down, but all that traveling really wore me out. And it was shortened because my grandma died right before the trip and my FIL died while i was on my way home. Both had been sick for a loong time, but still my FIL was only 58. Not a good week to know me.

We will have to try again sometime, though.

AHA!! There is a Delaware thread! Just popping in to say hi; I'll be at Dewey Beach with my boy and some of his friends from high school Sunday-Wednesday next week.

I don't suppose there's anything interesting on the drive from Baltimore to Dewey, is there? I'll be doing it both ways by myself, since my boy is heading to the beach a day before me and staying a few days after.

Not much b/w Baltimore and Dewey, except a few thrift/junk stores perhaps, depending on which way you come.

JStrizzy, I don't know what your plans are like for while you're here, but I work in Lewes which is about 10-15 mins. north of Dewey, so if you have some time, we could meet up for dinner or coffee or something in Rehoboth (or Dewey). I'll email you later!

(I would say Bekkaboo too, but she works @ 2 hrs. north of there and gets off work late... but B, you ARE invited!)

polly, I don't really know what my plans are either, as I'm basically tagging along on the annual trip that the boy and his high-school buddies take. I think we'll mostly be just hanging out though, not doing anything in particular, so we should definitely get together. I probably won't have internet while I'm there, so I'll email you with my cell #.

bekkaboo, I hope you can make it too! And Nieci, we'll be thinking of you!

Bekkaboo, I have a feeling you're gonna have to leave work early one day next week. I don't know which yet, but you're going to have to start "coming down with something" in the morning, and have it get bad enough by the p.m. that you have to leave early...
