Hmmm, 24 hours until my last exam, and after that I am free (for awile.) So from where I sit right now, any time you all want to do it is great. It appears that my next exams aren't until Jan 30th or so, so pick a weekend, and I can pretty much be there!

As far as I can tell, I'm free any weekend except the 10/11.

Since we haven't heard anything from any Madison peoples, did we want to move to a more centralized location?

Good people of Milwaukee, can you help me? I'm thinking of coming up for a weekend during Summerfest. I have no prior Summerfest experience. How hard is it to get to Summerfest on Friday and Saturday nights if I don't stay downtown? Is it better to just fork over the cash for a downtown hotel?

Dammit! I typed this wonderful long post, and it got eaten by the cybergremlins. Ok, I'll try again:

There are lots of shuttle buses from around town, park and rides and such, that drop you off at the gates. I believe they cost around $5. You can get parking down there, but it will probably be more expensive. If you want to tell me what area you are staying in, I can investigate and find out what's close.
Also, there are many get in free promotions, like bring two canned goods between 11-1 to get in free, etc. I can find out what those are, too, if you're interested. The food and rinks down there are always so expensive, I try to save a buck wherever I can. If you are going to go more than one day, you may want to invest in a pin, which is I think cheaper than a ticket, at least cheaper than buying several tickets. It is good for entry betwween certain times (usually early afternoon) almost every day.

If you have time, we should try to set up a mini-digsmeet when you're in town. I am between board exams and rotations then, so I'm free as a little birdy Let me know!

Parking anywhere downtown is a nightmare during summerfest. I would not recommend it at all... when I lived near downtown we pretty much just parked at the grocery store 3 blocks away teh whole week.

However, what savasana said about shuttles and whatnot is very true - if you find a good deal on a hotel somewhere besides downtown, there is a lot of transportation to the fairgrounds during the festival.

If you can find a deal, I would highly recommend the P@rk E@st hotel. It's not in what most people would consider "downtown", ie in the business/convention district, but it's about three blocks from the lake and within 3/4 of a mile of the summerfest grounds. It's very charming. And in my old neighborhood.

Man, I want to come to milwaukee. Pooh.

And when it's not raining and the sun actually does pop out, we have 30 mph winds grinding the pollen into our eyeballs - ahhhhh spring

Yo, I'm here!

I'm pretty busy on weekends because the boy just bought a house in Madison and we're fixing, cleaning, painting, decorating, etc. It's hard to convince him to come to Milwaukee now that he's got a house so I end up spending most weekends there. But if ya'll want to plan something I can see about making it to hang out, weeknights are better for me.

How about June 22 or 23? I think next week is too close.

Any ideas on places? Would it be fun to do dinner and karaoke somewhere? This website has a list of places that have karaoke. http://members.aol.com/ejshazam/

Ok so let's say it's the 23rd. What time? 6 p.m. would work best for me because I work until 5 p.m. Any ideas where? The north side of Milwaukee is closer to me, but I am open to driving just about anywhere.

Ooh yay! I've been dying to go do some karaoke. The 23rd sounds peachy.

Where is everybody else located? I'm way out in Waukesha myself. If we finalize a general location I can call around to make sure we can find a place with karaoke.

6pm should be fine.... I'm on the south side but I work downtown, so I can get pretty much anywhere.

I'm reading the reviews on the website that was posted, under Wednesday... how does the Painted Parrot sound? Far enough West so that jh doesn't have to go too far... good review, lots to do if we all chicken out too much to be rockstars? It looks like it would be right off of 894 there.

Crap, I feel so dumb! I somehow already made plans for Wednesday. I had last week and this week and next week all confused. If you do go to the Painted Parrot you might want to make sure they're at the same location, I saw on a website that they were going to move.

Planning on going to Summerfest on Friday. Wanted to get some opinions on parking. I am staying at a friend's in the 3rd (4th? Whatever that trendy area is right by the fest) Ward that night. I understand parking will be a pain in the rear.

Here's my idea: use Summerfest parking upon arrival, then drive and park by her place after the show (around midnight). I am guessing that parking in her area will be freer at that point since people will be heading home at that hour from the fest & freeing up street parking. She hasn't lived there a year yet so she doesn't know how it's going to be.

Any thoughts? I'd appreciate any insight! Thanks.

It's tough to say... that area is generally pretty tough to park in even when it's not fest-season.

Is there any chance you could leave your car at a Park & Ride for the weekend, and just walk back and forth from Summerfest?

ended up being a piece of cake....great parking garage a few blocks away for $5 overnight, fabulous.

just a heads up that if you leave the grounds, you have to come back in before 7pm or you have to play again. That sorta blew. And why on earth were they so mean as to schedule GUstEr, BUddy GUy and BEn FOlds ALL at the same time. That was irritating!!

This Jessica is still in the Milwaukee area. Still feeling stupid because of the mixup with the last event we tried to plan when I couldn't keep track of the days. Duh.

I will be moving to Madison around the end of October but would still love to meet everybody if we can plan something.

we could always meet up at the infamous Gurnee Mills...I'm not sure how far that is from Madison though, cuz isn't Madison up I-90 Gurnee is I-94. I don't know much about what happens in between those, like if there is a highway connecting them. Although there is a new outlet thingie going on in McHenry county off of I-90.

You can take I-94 east from Madison, through Milwaukee, and down to Gurnee Mills. It's about an hour from Madison to Milwaukee (depending on traffic), and a little over another hour from Milwaukee to Gurnee if I remember right (it's been awhile since we stopped there and not went all the way to Chicago.)

On a related note, it might be fun to do a milwaukee-chicago digsmeet, if we have enough notice so that people can make the trip? Thoughts?
