I'm not looking to come over to your house or anything, but I'm curious: Who's Canadian and where in Canada are you from/residing. Usually, a forum such as this is dominated by Americans purely because they are the largest online, English-speaking group, and, well, I'm just curious about the CanCon. I'm from Hamilton, Ontario. I live in Burlington, Ontario and I work in Toronto. IP: Logged |

I am from Thunder Bay, Ontario, and now live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am possibly moving to Calgary, Alberta in about a year, depending on wether or not my S.O. gets a kick-ass programming job HERE. (yeah, frickin' right!) I really hope we make it there, he lived there before and says it's beautiful. I was just in Toronto last month for my aunt and uncle's wedding (they've been together for over 25 years, so I already considered her my aunt, they were together before I was born). They got married at this mansion right beside a hospital or crisis centre or something. It was a really beautiful place. IP: Logged |

I'm from Edmonton, Alberta and have lived here since I was born. It's not a bad place to live but I doubt I'll stay here forever. I'm thinking about maybe going to the College of Art and Design in Calgary in a couple years...maybe. IP: Logged |

Okay, I'm not Canadian though I am so looking forward to Canadian Music Week. "Vacation, all I ever wanted..." etc. Anyway, last time I was in Canada I went to Montreal and Ottawa. While in Montreal, watching MusiquePlus I saw a video with two young girls in a bedroom singing a very happy poppy song in French. Then in Ottawa, I saw the same video (this time on MuchMusic) only the girls were singing in English. It was on a lot, this was in early September, and now I can't remember the song or the artist and it is driving me mad. A problem is that the chorus of the song (at least in my memory) sounded something like "ah lay ah lay ah lay ah lay baby", so I don't even have any lyrics to go on. If anyone could help me out with this one, I'd love you forever. (I imagine this could go in Ear Candy, but I only saw this video in Canada, so I'm seeing it as a locality-specific query) IP: Logged |

While technically a US citizen, i grew up on the border of Maine and NB. Most of my friends in high school were canadian, and I grew up on the Gentle Giant, MR Dress Up and French Sesame Street. I have eaten my fair share of Coffee Crisps, Aero Bars, Smarties, and Crunchies, although I do not know the Caramilk secret. I once crossed three lanes of highway in Indiana because I saw a Tim Horton's sign. So, while the passport is blue, theres definitely a big piece of canada in me

I'm not Canadian, but my boyfriend is... I'm probably going to trek up there with him again during the winter. He's from the worst town, though: Lethbridge, AB. It's right on Montana's border. It smells like a feed lot. Really. Every time he goes home for a visit, he has strict instructions to bring back as much Canadian candy for me as he possibly can. Smarties, Coffee Crisp, the Gum That Tastes Like Soap (can't remember the name)... yum. IP: Logged |

Ewww. I hate the gum that tastes like soap. I have no idea why every store seems to carry it. That's so funny, I love american candy. My parents are going on a trip down to washington this weekend, and I've instructed them to bring me back bizarre american candy. I can't find johnny appleseed or cherry clan or alexander the grape here anywhere and I love them. Milk duds, good'n'plenty, dumdum pops, whee! It's strangely fascinating. IP: Logged |

Not Canadian by nationality, but I'm living in Toronto and doing my grad. work at UToronto. Toronto is my favorite city on the planet earth, but on the country as a whole... well, the jury is still out on that verdict! IP: Logged |

I'm Canadian, too, and I've been missing these boards. Why haven't I been here for so long?!? Anyway, romnralf, I'm from Saskatoon and I've been to Regina a few times. They're both great. They've got small-town atmosphere but most of the big city amentities (except IKEA, of course--gotta go to Alberta for that!) IP: Logged |

I'd like to lobby to become Canadian. I currently live in the Detroit area, Please, please, please let me be Canadian. Any country where the national film board funds a movie like Naked Lunch (I didn't even like it much, but the fact that it got made...) is a country wehre I wanna live. IP: Logged |

I'm Canadian and a student, so I divide my time between Kingston and Toronto. Personally, I think that T-dot is a better place to visit than live in, even though I grew up in the "center of the world" city. I love the smaller town atmosphere of Kingston. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? [This message has been edited by datura (edited 07-27-2001).] IP: Logged |

I am Canadian, but for the past four years I've been living in Sweden. My mom once sent me a package of "the gum that tastes like soap" (aka, Thrills) in a parcel full of Canadian goodies. Blech. I hadn't had that stuff in years. I remember liking it when I was young, but those days are long gone, I guess. =) IP: Logged |

I'm not Canadian, but I, like Kiki, would like to become one. Ever heard of people who become British nationals, and it's usually for some really deep, important reason? I want to become a Canadian national. Um, just because. And, while I live less than three hours from the border, I've never been to Canada. Sad, I am. IP: Logged |

Hey! There are Ontarions here now!! Sorry I missed this thread for so long, but I just assumed it was Yam and me and we are separated by mountains and prairies, so it is slightly less thrilling than realizing their are Digsters as close as a few towns away. Yay! IP: Logged |

Also Canadian over here... living in Toronto. I grew up in Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, SoCal, and Burlington, and I went to school in Kingston for a year. Growing up, my grandparents lived in Saskatoon... we used to drive there from Thunder Bay or Winnipeg (my dad used to read the paper while driving, I expect everyone in this forum know that yes, it really is that flat), and watch the incredible prairie sunsets and thunderstorms. I'm amazed there's so many of you out here in TO! IP: Logged |

I'm a proud Canuck! Originally from Saskatoon, I'm currently living in Wainwright, AB, where I work for the town newspaper. I don't like small towns. Last year, I lived in Montreal, where I went to journalism school at Concordia University. I loved it, but missed Western Canada. In some ways, I wish I'd stayed in Montreal, but oh well. I'll be leaving Wainwright in a couple of months to go to Saskatoon and then I want to go to Asia (fingers crossed) IP: Logged |

I watched the game at a sports bar in Brantford, Ontario (Gretzky's hometown). Big cheers whenever they showed Wayne. Bigger cheers when they showed his dad Walter. go figure! Very cool all around - singing the goodbye song during the last period, doing the countdown during the last 10 seconds, singing the national anthem when the game was over & again after the medal ceremony. Cars driving up and down the street honking their horns, guys with flags standing beside the road. Up until the game actually started I kept telling myself that I didn't care if we won or lost but during the game I wanted Team Canada to win so much that I thought I was going to get sick each time Team USA scored. I cried, as I predicted to Sean that I would. I can't take that much joy -- it chokes me up. (and I can never sing along to the anthem because I get choked up then, too) My mom (at whose home we watched the game) popped open champagne to celebrate the win. Seeing the gentle, level-headed and all-round nice guy Wayne Gretzky shout "Fucking eh!" (soundlessly) on international television when the third Canadian goal was scored - PRICELESS!!! (I cried even harder when the gals won the gold two nights (?) before.) IP: Logged |
