The concert will be Wednesday July 30 at Downsview (an old army base where the Pope had a huge outdoor mass last July).
Tickets go on sale June 27 - there will be 300,000 available with half embargoed for American and overseas fans. Tickets will be sold at Dominion, A&P ($21.50 in Canada) and Farmer Jack's ($16 in the States). There are also bus tour and package deals available.
The lineup includes: AC/DC, The Guess Who, Sam Roberts, The Flaming Lips, The Isley Brothers, Kathleen Edwards, Justin Timberlake, La Chicane and Sass Jordan.
Concert profits, as well as $1 from each ticket sold, will go to the hospital workers who've lost income as a result of being in quarantine because of SARS, and hospitality workers who've lost business because of the disease. The money will be distributed through a relief fund set up by Molson breweries.

Happy Canada day to you all as well! Boom boom boom goes the gun salute on Citadel Hill outside my window. On my way to the waterfront to celebrate the day - oh my god it's gorgeous out.

Happy Canada D'eh!

(I took out the nationalities of the questioners)

1. Q: I have never seen it warm on TV, so how do the plants grow?
A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around watching them die.

2. Q: Will I be able to see Polar Bears in the street?
A: Depends how much you've been drinking.

3. Q: I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto - can I follow the railroad tracks?
A: Sure, it's only four thousand miles, take lots of water...

4. Q: Is it safe to run around in the bushes in Canada?
A: So it's true what they say about Swedes.

5. Q: It is imperative that I find the names and addresses of places to contact for
a stuffed Beaver.
A: Let's not touch this one.

6. Q: Are there any ATMs (cash machines) in Canada? Can you send me a list of them
in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Halifax?
A: What did your last slave die of?

7. Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Canada?
A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Ca-na-da is that
big country to your North...oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday
night in Calgary. Come naked.

8. Q: Which direction is North in Canada?
A: Face south and then turn 90 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send
the rest of the directions.

9. Q: Can I bring cutlery into Canada?
A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do.

10. Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule?
A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is....oh,
forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Vancouver and in
Calgary, straight after the hippo races. Come naked.

11. Q: Do you have perfume in Canada?
A: No, WE don't stink.

12. Q: I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Can you tell me
where I can sell it in Canada?
A: Anywhere significant numbers of Americans gather.

13. Q: Can I wear high heels in Canada?
A: You are an American politician, right?

14. Q: Can you tell me the regions of Bristish Columbia where the female population
is smaller than the male population?
A: Yes, gay nightclubs.

15. Q: Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada?
A: Only at Thanksgiving.

16. Q: Are there supermarkets in Toronto and is milk available all year round?
A: No, we are a peaceful civilization of vegan hunter gatherers. Milk is illegal.

17. Q: Please send a list of all doctors in Canada who can dispense rattlesnake
serum.
A: All Canadian rattle snakes are perfectly harmless, and can be safely handled and
make good pets.

18. Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Canada, but I forget its name.
It's a kind of big horse with horns.
A: It's called a Moose. They are tall and very violent, eating the brains of anyone
walking close to them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine
before you go out walking.

19. Q: I was in Canada in 1969 on R+R, and I want to contact the girl I dated while
I was staying in Surrey, BC. Can you help?
A: Yes, and you will still have to pay her by the hour.

20. Q: Will I be able to speak English most places I go?
A: Yes, but you will have to learn it first...

I went to the Olympic Party at the Plaza of Nations this afternoon and it was pretty fun. G and I signed up to be volunteers, even though it's not for almost 7 years...hehe.

The video they've made makes me choke up...I love this city! I love this country!

I was just reading earlier parts of this thread, and I realized that Miss Ho was from Antigonish???

I have a friend from Antigonish! Well, technically Maryvale...hehe... He plays for Dal Soccer now, but his home is in Maryvale. His mom teaches at St. Francis Xavier. When I see people with an X ring I get all excited and ask them about St. FX.

hehe...I'm so creepy....

The asshole who's currently at the head of my provincial government keeps cutting into all kinds of programs so that they can lower the taxes.

The previous government had done a pretty good job of balancing good finances (no deficit for 7 years) and good social programs, and now they're destroying all this.

Last thing they announced is that IT industries in Montréal will have their job creation tax-incensitives removed. Great timing when the industry is at it's lowest point ever and there are already hundreds of unemployed programmers. Way to go!

God, I hear you, we've had that kind of nonsense going on too. "Tax cuts will pay for themselves!" (six months later) "Oops, they didn't, we'll just cut another four hundred million from healthcare and oh, kids don't need a hot lunch program!" Counting the days to election time...

Hi Kena! Yes, I study at U Sherb. I just completed my first year in Communication, redaction and multimedia. I live with my boyfriend at the "montagnais" just beside the university, I'm sure you know it! I'm having so much fun in Sherbrooke, it's so nice! I was born in La Pocatière, one hour east of Quebec city... a very little town I prefer Sherbrooke, but I'm missing St. Lawrence river!

I'm flying to Canada tomorrow to attend a wedding in Toronto. I'm going to have a few days to explore, and in addition to the places mentioned a few pages back, I was wondering whether anyone had any top Toronto tips they wouldn't mind sharing, especially about any good (and fairly cheap) bars and restaurants downtown. Also, I've read that in the summer there is always a festival of some kind going on........is there anything exciting happening this weekend?

Thanks for your help!

I was born and raised just south of Windsor, Ontario. in a small town- Canada's most southern, in fact. (i love telling my american friends that I am on the same latitude as northern california and more north than more than 10 states. tee hee. Nobody ever believes me)

In the winter I go to the University of Guelph. rah!

Applying to teachers college this year.. it's between Ottawa and Toronto. I'd like to live in a big city for a change!
