oh wow! Congratulations to ginsu! That's great news.

I'm about to finish my undergrad from U of T. I've even taken some zoology courses I don't know anything about the faculty experience, but if you have questions about the school in general, feel free to ask.

I sure missed a lot.

This was the first place I came, just now, after firing off a message to every MP in the country to tell them that I support same-sex marriage, and what do I find?

Crowjoy, Mander, I'm all weepy and happy for you. It's so awesome that you could come and get married. And I missed the whole thing, from several blocks away. AAAARgh. (This is what happens when I grump about envying the Vancouver digsters their cupcake meetings and then don't pay attention for months.) Yay!

Yeefan and Ginsu, congratulations! It's so strange and cool to think you might be living in my city!

Wheeeeee! Digsters!

uh, natalie? did i just [not] meet you on the street today?

i ran into two friends, one of whom works with you, and there was a woman with them...i immediately starting wondering if it was you, but they didn't introduce us. i realise now that the thing to do would have been just to say "hi, i'm [realname]" but all i could think of saying was "hey! are you natalie????", and i wasn't sure if you'd appreciate being outed like that...

plus, maybe it wasn't you, then i would have just looked SILLY!

Hey Crowjoy - congrats!

All is well for me here in Vancouver - the sun has been out every day for at least a week now, it's sort of freaky. I'm on my break from school (ends Mon.). School has been really crazy - similar workload to architecutre (I'm in urban design) which I was not expecting. I still need to figure out what I'll be doing this summer so if any Vancouverites have connections in the planning/urban design/landscape architecture world feel free to help.

What are the rest of the Van girls up to? We should plan a big crafty digsmeet when school ends and the weather is shockingly beautiful.

I don't know... I'm thinking I didn't go out at all on Tuesday, because I left for a business trip later that day. Maybe one day we should just meet for once and for all, and then we don't have to keep wondering! It's such a small town anyway...

I've recently been offered (and accepted) a co-op job in Ottawa, a city I've only spent one night in. Is anyone out there from Ottawa or spent much time there? I'll be there for four months and working right across the river from Carleton. Can anyone recommend interesting areas to live in? I don't want live in the 'burbs and have to have to spend an hour getting to work every morning! What about fun things to do there? Anyone?

My best friend went to Carleton, so I've spent weekends there a few times. It is a really nice city, but they get a lot of snow. Hull is just across the river with some great night life. Most of the time I spent there was in bars, so thats about all I can comment on. Apparently Canada Day is a blast in Ottawa. Sorry I'm not more help

I lived in Ottawa for five years and absolutely loved it. There are alot of apartment buildings near Carleton University so you shouldn't have trouble finding a place to live close to work. I lived on Riverside Drive, close to the mall, close to Carleton and there are actually nice (meaning not student like) places to live. If you are looking for cheaper or shared accommodation (which will suit a four month stay better anyway) check out Carleton's Housing office board, there are always people looking for roommates listed.

The market is a great place to go, in the spring there are alot of outdoor market stands, and alot of pubs/clubs/restaurants in the area. There are also alot of museums and the National Art Gallery which I visted frequently (it's free).

As for the great outdoors aspect, I think you may be moving too late to enjoy skating in the canal, but if you rollarblade don't forget to bring your skates, there is a path next to the canal that will take you all the way downtown and it is well maintained.

Thanks for the info CordeliaJ! I need to get my butt in gear and find myself a place to live (of course I'm beating myself up about this more than necessary, I only found out where in the city my office is yesterday!). I'm thinking of subletting something from a student who's leaving for the summer, which should be fairly easy considering I'll be there from May-August.

am from ottawa! by which i mean i studied/lived there [carleton!] four years when i first came to canada.

another fun place to live is the glebe. tons of cool shops, villagy atmosphere, the works [friends who moved there once had an antiglebe white trash party]. it can be pricey, but lots of students find cheaper places and sublet for the summer, so it can be done. if you don't have a car, there are 2 buses that run down bank street that shd take you to where you work.

ottawa's great in the summer. canada day is THE BEST. and i'm not even canadian. yet.

that said, i lived at home those four years, with my parents in rockcliffe.

mmmmm, ottawa.

Alright, I count four (4! Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha! *bats flapping*) digsters up for a Victoria digsmeet! Let's plan!

My weekends are pretty flexible, other than a guitar lesson early Saturday afternoons. Natalie? Specs? Jazz, what's your Victoria-time schedule like for the next month or so?

The next time I'll be here will probably be in early/mid April, I think. I can plan my next trip around your schedules.

Other than Saturday nights (date night with the boy!), my weekends are pretty flexible. Weeknights are a little more hectic, though I'm sure I could steal away on Mondays or Wednesdays for a couple of hours.

Any time suits me. Sounds like weekends are probably the best because that's when jazz is most likely to be here.

Jazz, did you get stuck in the Ferry Lineup From Hell this weekend? I did. Bah humbug.

Hermitclare, maybe we can do a coffee thing one weekday if the digsmeet doesn't work out... I think you said you're working in gov this semester, so really, we could bill for our time spent having coffee (wink wink)! Oh, also, we have this young lawyers evening out thing every month or so, and you're totally welcome to come if you're interested; I'll let you know the next time we're getting together.

For Blackeyed Lulu (and anyone else interested in where in Ottawa I will live): My new place in on Stewart, right near King Edward. This means a) I can get to work in a half-hour busride and b) I'm right freaking near everything!

eeee! I'm going to miss Vancouver like CRAZY this summer, but spending four months away will be so much fun!

I sure did. Man, did it ever suck. I ended up missing work on Monday because I couldn't get home on Sunday, then was stuck in line on Monday.

I'm thinking of coming over from Friday, April 8th and Saturday the 9th....nothing final yet though.
