Hey Crowjoy! Delta is the sister property to the company I had been working for (my hubby still works there). Next time you're planning to be in Toronto, let me know and I'll have hubby check for a Friends and Family rate at the Delta Chelsea (pronounced like the name) or the F@irmont Royal York. Both nice places, IMO.

Thanks rocyn, but my company is paying for the hotel since, oh yeah! this is a business trip, ha! But should we need future trips to further explore a new home town, say, then thank you and yes you'll hear from me. Maybe your husband can get me a nice free comforter or something though.

MP had a question about where we meet specifically AT city hall. I'm open to suggestion since even the map of city hall online is confusing to me, not having been there. Any suggestions?

Thanks crowjoy. I ask because there's a big public square, skating rink, etc. in front of City Hall, and knowing me I will get lost without narrowing it down.

It looks like your Ike@ question's resolved, Meggo, but you can access the North York store through the public transit line. They actually have a shuttle bus running from the subway station (Leslie) to the store! Of course if you buy too much it is a huge pain to lug back in any case... I know from experience.

I'm not sure if my cell phone works in Toronto yet. It's supposed to work in Canada - but there are many things about the stupid thing that are "Supposed" to be - and aren't.

Ok, me no brain today. All brain used on Master thesis. Me can't find out meeting place in thread. Have we decided on one? I think we said 2 PM at City Hall, but I'm guessing City Hall is pretty big...

Oh, and I don't know how liquor stores work in Ontario: where would one go to buy a good bottle of champagne? There's a liquor store strike in Quebec, and since I'm not one to pass through a (totally legitimate) picket line, I'll take the opportunity of this trip to stock up for my "end of Masters" celebration.

I don't think we've narrowed down the location yet, I was wondering the same.

You can only buy alcohol at a liquor store in On. That may be hard to find downtown.

That odd. Where do downtown people buy their alcohol?

How about we meet here:

Toronto City Hall Wedding Chambers
100 Queen Street West
The lobby of the East Tower? The wedding chamber is on the 3rd floor of the east tower so I'm assuming there is a main floor lobby of the east tower?

Sounds good to me. Kena, I'm sure there are liquor stores downtown, but I don't know where they are & they are more likely to be in the residentialish areas, rather than the business district.

Anyone familiar with the area know of the nearest one?

I went on the lcbo site & you can search by address. I don't know Toronto at all - but maybe that will help? You can even search to see which ones are close to public transportation (how convenient!)

I still have to book my ticket & my room. I'm such a bum. But I will do this tonight - I swear. And then I'll know. I'm looking at the Chelsea too. (I read about the waterslide & am SO bummed that I probably won't use it... okay - maybe I'll sneak up there at 3 am and use it - it would be fun!)

kena, if you'd like me to get a bottle for you, you could just pay me back when we meet up? Just let me know what you want. (You can email me at the address in my profile.) There aren't very many liquor stores in downtown Toronto, unless you count the one at Union station, which is really small and has a terrible selection.

re: meeting place, there is no lobby of the east tower. City Hall is not an easily navigatable (is that a word?) building. Perhaps a better option would be to meet just inside the main doors (which face south, towards the CN tower, in case you're lost). Once you're inside, to the left of the doors there's a big scale model under a glass case; we could meet right in front of it.

Yay for Andree and her in depth knowledge!! In front of the glass cube it is!

Kena, I'll have been in and out of the suburbs all week long by the time we see you. I think it just sounds like a good plan to pick up some champagne (now that the paperwork has been out of my hands so long I'm feeling all goofy optimistic.) So if it comes down to it and you want a bottle of what we've got, Happy Graduation!

So there is a chance of a wedding, Crowjoy? When would you find out for sure?

I'm in! I'm in! I'm booked in! I have a train ticket coming in around 1pm on Friday & I actually don't remember what time home on Saturday (I might have picked the 4:00 pm to give me ikea time!)

And I have a room.
Now all I have to do is go to work tomorrow and remember to take the day off.... which won't be a problem because if things were any slower at work - I'd be a tree stump.

Dunno about the wedding. We might not know until that very day, but I've pretty much done all I can do (except for one last phone call at the very last minute) so it will either be or not. Surprise wedding!

it is freezing this week. I kind of thought this would happen - it was this cold the last time I went to Toronto.
I'm not sure what to wear! I want to wear something so I'm prepared for a wedding, but I want to wear something I can put long johns on under... and something that can go to the bar later if needed... I just don't know!

Ok, thanks to the lcbo website, I've found that the Union Station has Veuve Clicquot in stock (When it comes to celebration, nothing beats the Veuve Clicquot! ), so I'll be able to buy it there myself. Much simpler that way! Thanks for the shopping offer, everyone, that was really nice of you.

I hesitate between wearing a pant suit (warmer, but not as much "me". I don't typically wear a suit unless I have an interview) or wearing my new favorite dress with a cardigan and sensible mid-calf boots. I guess I'll decide at the last minute depending on the weather.

Hmm. I think I'm going to just wear a blouse and pants. The only really formal dress I own is summery. Would that be okay? I am a broke student, and looking at it my wardrobe reflects that...

I have no idea what to wear! I think I'll wear jeans on the way up there - but I'll switch into dressier pants maybe when I get there? But then I think nothing remotely dressy that I have - is actually WARM.... And it's cold out there right now...

eta: My train gets in at 1:30ish on Friday. And leaves at 4 pm on Saturday. So - who is up for an IKEA trip? I found out there is checked baggage service on my trip home! So that means I will do the suitcase within a suitcase thing and will be packing one full!
Who's up for it?

It's going to be a wedding!! Our authorization was sent to the hotel today and so we should have it tomorrow! Yay!!!! We are SO excited!! (Oh yeah, we've arrived!)

We only brought dress pants and tops too. Unless we happen upon a fabulous dress with knit knickers inside that's what we're wearing to get married in. Dress for this event is flexible.

EEEEE!

Hee! You guys are so cute.

I'm totally wearing black, if I wear what I brought. No worries.

Honestly, we had our "real" wedding a few years back right so while this one is the LEGAL one (wow!) we are just so psyched to do it and have y'all there we aren't really planning anything else. I mean, if you want to bring something, bring it. Or, just bring your own bad selves. It's gonna be great!

woo hoo! this will be so much fun.

It's supposed to be -12 (celcius) on Friday so whatever you do, dress warmly!

I'll make reservations for Friday at the Ethiopian restaurant. If I've counted correctly, there will be 8 of us. Is that right?

re: going out afterwards, I've asked around to see what the bar options are, and what Slack Alice is like on Friday nights. I'll let you all know what I find out. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Have we decided how we'll recognize the fellow digsters? Should we all have a shovel? (practical in case we get snowed in/out and in the theme with -er- digging?)
Red eye patches - what's the plan?
