Okay, so my boyfriend is buying me xbox for xmas.
Any suggestions on some cool games ?
The xbox he is getting me is the Crystal edition which already comes with what I heard were two pretty decent games - Fable and Crimson skies.

However, I LOVE driving games - especially rally car games. I just read the reviews on Rallisport Challenge 2 and it looks great. I already played Colin McRae rally 2004 and I really enjoyed it - trying to decide which of those to buy.

But...any other good games anybody can suggest would be great. I am so excited - I can't wait to start using my own xbox instead of going to friend's places to just try it out.

My boyfriend has an xbox , and he also is a manager at a GameStop, which is a top seller in games and xbox's, ps's and ps2's, and etc. He is absolutely hooked on xbox live, its a connection tht hooks up to your internet and you play games against other people (like even from other countries)on xbox, it even has like a buddy list to where you can add people that you wanna like keep playing against. Just a thought, even though it's not a game. But I CANNOT get him off of it lol.

Some really cool games that he likes Halo 2, Project Gotham Racing 2.. sorry those are the only 2 that he had enough time to tell me, b/c he's playing his xbox and I am NOT allowed to talk to him while he's playing, haha it's so cute... b/c it distracts him. So whenever he gets off, or maybe another day (b/c I am wayy tired and going to bed), I'll get on and add some more games to your list.

we have a playstation and a gamecube, but lots of games are available on multiple platforms, so here are my recommendations:

- tony hawk is the best game ever. i haven't played the newest one yet, but it looks great. the graphics are fantastic, it's pretty quick to learn, has tutorials, and it's just incredibly fun. and digital bam margera isn't too bad looking either

- grand theft auto. boy is addicted. its finally died down to the point where he's not playing for hours daily, but he loves this game.

- boy also really likes the star wars games. great graphics, and it seems to be pretty easy to learn to fly the ships and everything. i haven't really played these much myself though.

sorry but we're not big into the rpg games, so can't give you any advice there. hope this helps a little bit!

I must admit Fable looks pretty cool but I have never really played RPG games. They have always seemed too in-depth and complex to me.
It's nice to know that you enjoyed that game though. I was going to tell him to get the other xbox which is cheaper so we could buy another game that I would be more likely to enjoy but if you think Fable is worth having, maybe I'll give it a try.

Learning the controls for these games can sometimes be a chore. For most it's easy - like the driving games which I love - but for ones when you will likely need to use and remember every button on the controller, it's different.
I am glad the game comes with tutorial-quests. Did you find it pretty easy to get into the game after that ?

How many tutorial quests are there ?

Thanks again!

Me and the boy just got one as an "each other" gift for xmas. You just hit the nail on the head. It's the coolness and the games, that's the only difference. I don't know how it is where you are, but where I am, the regular black one came with a tennis and a snowboarding game. Fable is awesome, and I have to admit I am now addicted to it . Not good around exam time... But it's a really good RPG, it starts out with tutorial-type quests, so if you're like me and take a while to learn how to use the controls, it's really easy to learn. Crimson Skies is a shootem' type aircraft-y kind of game. I haven't played it yet, but the boy thinks it's alright. He likes Fable better too, though. I'd say that for the extra $30 or so, the better games are probably worth it. The dude at the store said that with the original version you get $70 worth of games, while with the crystal version you get $140 worth of games, so the extra price difference is probably worth it if you like storyline/shootem up type games better than sports-oriented ones.

Hope this helps! And have fun, hope you have a lot of extra time on your hands!!

Just wondering - is there alot of fight scenes etc in Fable ?
I was just looking at a website with tons of screen shots and it looks so cool - the graphics are really incredible but there seems to be alot of fighting - I don't mind that but does it depend on the character that you choose to be or do you have to fight all these opponents to get to the next level ?

Also, do you guys have either of the Halo games yet ?
We went to a friend's place the other day and played Halo 1 on their xbox. I liked it initally but got stumped early on. For some reason, I just don't have the gamers mind..I don't know what to look for or how to get out of some rooms where there appears to be no apparent exit and yet my boyfriend seems to figure it out automatically. I feel like an idiot sometimes !!
Hoping that will change with experience when we get our xbox !

We have HALO 2 - or I should say boy has it and I have become addicted to it. It is an awesome game and I highly reccomend it. I got it the morning it came out for his birthday - we have the collectors edition which I don't think you can get anymore.

I'm not too sure what "rally" racing is, but if you are into car game at all, Burnout 3 is FANTASTIC. I hate hate hate car games, but I love this one. It is a street racing/intentional crashing game with incredible graphics.

I know someone already mentioned Tony Hawk, and I second that. The Pro Skater games as well as THUG are great.

ipod, on the Fable tutorial question: It's not really that you have tutorials that are completely separate, but say, to learn how to shoot a bow, when your character is still a young boy, his teacher shows him how to use it, and then you practice. You can keep going back to the practice areas, and the instructions come up telling you how to aim, which buttons to press, etc. And every time you encounter something new, information pops up on the screen, that tells you how to deal with the new situation. And you can 'teleport' back and forth to buy supplies, go to a certain area, etc., so there's no annoying "have to remember how to get back to ___ place". I found it very user friendly (especially since I'd never played Xbox before), and they really ease you into everything before you have to do any crazy fighting or anything. The quests get more difficult only after you have mastered the skills you will need. Very fun and user friendly!

I just bought LOTR The Two Towers today, so we'll see how that goes.... I'm more of an RPG person myself, just because it's a little slower sometimes, and relies more on wit and strategy than on speed, or solely fighting, etc. I like to at least use my brain while I'm rotting it...

Hi Isabelle,

Burnout 3 looks so cool - just looking at the screenshots. I think it would be great to play. Thanks for telling me about it. It also got very good reviews. Problem is post-Christmas empty xbox game shelves :-(

Will have to check out Walmart and a couple other places tomorrow for it.

I can't wait to try it out :-)

Need for Speed Underground 2 is a great car racing game. I've played it all the way through. My husband says that the first Need for Speed Underground was really bad on the XBox, something to do with the way the controls worked.

Other games I liked:
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - a great platform/fighting game. I've tried to play Warrior Within, but I couldn't even get through the tutorial I'll have to try again on easy.

The Halo games are a good first person shooter. I don't tend to play those games by myself but I like to play cooperative mode.

There are heaps more that I've liked, but I can't think of them at the moment. I'll post more later.

Finally, it's not really a game, but if you are interested in fitness I fully recommend getting Yourself Fitness. It's your own personal trainer. You do a fitness test to start with, tell the program what equipment you own, and what you would like to achieve and it creates a workout routine for you. I've been doing the program for two months now and I've increased the number of bent leg pushups I can do from 12 to 21. The best thing is that I don't have to think about what exercise I'm going to do, I just turn up and the workout is prepared for me. Check out the website for more info, or let me know if you'd like to know more about it.

Hi there,

I saw the Halo 2 collectors edition. What is the difference between the collectors edition and the regular one ?

Also, I managed to pick up the original Halo for just $20.00 Canadian here and since we have not played it, thought we would try that first. I have tried Halo on a friend's machine and initially found it hard to get into. I didn't get very far...hoping that with a bit more time, I will get into it more and find out why people are enjoying it so much.

Thanks for the suggestion !

Hi Bjerica,

Thanks for the suggestions ! We picked up a bunch of games over Christmas. My dad gave me Alias and the Rallisport Challenge 2 game and I got Amped 2, Halo, Colin McRae Rally 2005, Harry Potter (from a friend) and also got Crimson Tides and Fable with the Crystal Edition XBox.

I have been thinking about getting the steering wheel and pedals set... does anybody have one ? Does it really add much to the driving games ?

They are $60.00 so don't want to go out spending that much if they are not worth the money.
