ooh! I was there the other day and saw all that new stuff that's bright tropical colors (metal buckets of varying sizes, plastic flower shaped plates, etc.)! EEK! I want one of everything. I took all my willpower to leave without any of it...

PS, thanks TrendyMatt for the info!

Glad to be of service, DharmaBlue!

I've got a point about Target that I don't think has been touched upon yet. Has anyone else noticed a different atmosphere there than at other chain stores? It seems whenever I *must* go to Wal-mart, for example, I can't wait to get out of there - I'll be in and out with whatever I came for in about 15 minutes. When I go to Target, I often end up spending an hour when it seems I've only been there 15 mins or so. I don't know if it's the color red or different lighting or even just how they set up the stores, but it's definitely a consumer psychology study waiting to happen! Does anyone else notice this or is this just psych. 101 rearing it's ugly head?

TrendyMatt, you are so right! I noticed that the other day! I was looking for a videotape rewinder and went to Wal-Mart and K-mart and was out of both places within 15 minutes...but when I went to Target (saved the best for last of course since I KNEW I'd be there longer!) I was there for an hour and a half!!! I was checking out EVERYTHING in that store! I walked out (without the tape rewinder) spending $52...how the hell did that happen?!?

*btw: does anyone know where to get a videotape rewinder? I can't find one for the life of me....

I've noticed some of you lamenting a lack of ready access to IKEA. We've got one--only one--in Houston--only ONE STORE FOR THE SURROUNDING 4+ MILLION POPULATION! The awful truths are these: good luck finding a parking spot in the same zip code, spend 2 hours shopping the store and then be prepared to invest another 2 hours at the checkout line, assemble your furniture and ask youself "is this stuff gonna hold up for even a year?" Only thing left to do is go see what's at Crate & Barrel, Cost Plus or Target! Forget about Pottery Barn. Cool stuff, ridiculously overpriced.

has anyone noticed the new blinds that Target has? they're woven, and they come in a matchstick style, and smoked bamboo. now if they'd only carry rice paper shades *sigh*

I noticed them. They look great. I'm currently shopping for "window treatments" for my new house. It has huge windows all over (including a bay window in the dining room) so I've suddenly become very interested in curtains, shades, and blinds.

Of course, the hubby doesn't quite understand how I can agonize over curtain rods and finials. In his opinion, it's just a rod.

Do you mean rice paper lamp shades? 'Cause they do carry or those... or at least they did a while back. I've got one and about 3 other people I know have the same one.

We have a couple old Monkey Wards stores that are being converted to BIG Targets!!! Yeah!! Hopefully they're done this summer

We have one in an old Buffums department store & it's two stories and has a "cart escalotor" that takes your cart from one floor to another. We have deemed it the Disneyland of Targets and it is what I consider he Taj Mahal of shopping

I have become rather addicted to the "Restore in Style" collection of shelves, etageres etc. And also the awsome outdoor entertaining stuff.

i thought i had the only target with the cart escalator.....nobody else i know knows what i'm talking about.

one time me and my younger brothers (11 and 12) found a bunch of carts and sent them down the cart escalaltor. we just liked watching them go down....well by mistake we had taken someone's cart. it was an older lady and she came out of hte aisle and started yelling at us for taking her cart. we started giggling and ran to find my mom so we could leave. hehe.

www.pearlriver.com sells rice paper shades online -- very cheap, and they ship outside NYC, I'm pretty sure.

I just wanted to say: what did we ever DO before Target?? I swung by there last night and solved my summer sandal dilemma with THREE pairs of leather sandals (casual, fun and sophisticated, respectively) all for less than $50. I mean, really.

I live in Minneapolis, the land of tarjay! We have a beautiful downtown store that is two stories high and they have those cart escalators just like in IKEA!

On a side note...

We had two Target execs come in to talk to our marketing class about their marketing approach. They try to differenciate themselves from Kmart,Walmart by having one-of a kind products like michael graves.. making the isles extra wide and the store bright.. They also got some great ads!

New Orleans is about to get it's first Target store! All I can say is, it's about freakin time!! My grandparents live in Texas and have a Target just right down the street and that was always one of the first places we would go to.

I think the one they are building is going to be a two story one cause the building looks HUGE! I could only be so lucky. :-)

It's about time New Orleans got a Target!

Hey did you guys here about how Todd Oldham is designing a line of housewares for Target that should be in stores this summer? I read about it in the latest InStyle (an occasional indulgence when my brain becomes overburdened and needs to indulge in the flippant side of life.) How cool is that?! Todd Oldham is one of my favorite designers even though he's retired from the fashion industry. He's also a hottie...why must he be gay?

I was at target yesterday- they have great bikinis! The Mossimo bikinis in black and white or purple and white seem to fit really well and aren't horribly over priced. even the sizing is semi-accurate! Good find.

The trick to target is knowing when to leave. That moment occurs just seconds before you decide to peruse the health and beauty aids section, deciding that the rain-scented foot massaging revitalizing exfoliating alpha-hydroxified never tested on animals creamy lotion product would be a good idea. Leave before this happens.

Cool! Cool! Cool! Cool! I did not know that, but am very excited about it. I love Todd Oldham so much. I've got some throw pillows that I bought off his Web site years ago. They are so cute, and I get so many compliments on them. They've got scenes from old Arizona Highways magazines screen printed on them and are rounded out with fringe or dingle berries (um, not sure if that's the official name or not). They're super colorful and fun. His houseware stuff has always been great, so I'm sure his designs for Target will be equally wonderful. Yea for Todd Oldham!

KR - I don't know when you are graduating but all my friends and I (who have graduated in the past two/three years) are SOOOO jealous that they are building a humungo Ikea in CP! That is just AMAZING! Too bad its going to be at such an already annoying intersection.

I'll trade you one of our Ikeas for one of your Targets
I live in Toronto and there are 2 Ikeas in the city itself and one about a 30-45 minute drive away. Even with this many stores you still cannot find a parking spot, the line ups are huge and the stores are crowded

Funny you should mention that - I just bought a bikini bottom there last weekend! Black with horizontal crinkles in the fabric to go with the v. cute top I got at Marshalls which came with a skanky ho bottom. (bikini bottom, that is, not an actual ho's bottom)

To the other Todd Oldham fans:

If you are ever in Miami, you must go to The Hotel, it is the hotel he designed. He designed everything from the bedspreads to the dishes in the restaurant - it is very cool and the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in.

So my boss walked in today with the coolest capri-esque jeans on-- from the Mossimo line at Tarjay. I ran out there at lunch and got the jeans (regular length), plus a skirt (black, just below the knee, buttons all the way down the front, pockets on the front-- and it fits my waist, hips AND butt! Can I just tell you all how that NEVERNEVERNEVER happens!?!?!), plus two kind of faux 1940's/Latin ruffly blouses, plus a black v-neck sparkly t-shirt? Everything except the t-shirt was that amazing, wonderful Mossimo line. Oh. My. Word.

I cannot be allowed back there...

Athens, GA. will soon be sporting it's own two story super target, or so says the gossip around town. I am so happy! I am in loooooove with all the retro summer stuff!
But I must say that Target has the worst Fat Lady section ever. It's always jammed in the corner with the Clearance merchandise and mixed in with the maternity clothes. It sucks when I find a cute shirt that fits and then notice that it says Baby & Me on the tag. Wah!
Also, please do not be mad that I called it a Fat Lady section. My entire family calls it that, because when my brother was four he screamed and protested, "I don't wanna go in the Fat Lady store!!" and the name stuck.

No offense taken here... my mom always refers to them as Fat Chick Stores-- a typical comment from her: "None of the Fat Chick Stores have anything decent in them lately! What am I going to wear to your brother's wedding?"

Please don't hate me, but I have 11, yes 11 Target stores that I could go to! The closest being 5 min. away, the farthest an hour! I loooooove finding those little orange stickers! Clearance! Clearance! Clearance! My sister and I had an evening without the kids and of course we went shopping there! She found a complete twin bed set for her daughter for $100! The sheets, comforter, dust ruffle, two different little pillows, rug and curtains! It was the last total set! It was pink and had roses all over it, it was beautiful and quite a find!!!! We found so many coordinating things for it our heads began to spin!!! Every where we turned there was a new accessory! I like to go to the different targets and head for the clearance! They each have different things!! We were there so long our husbands had to call and remind us we had families!!!!

Mmm...target. I even worked there, three summers ago. The only retail place I worked in that I still love to go to! And I love everything in that store. But there isn't one where I am. (sniff sniff) I have to travel home three and a half hours to get to a good target. At the very least to Salina, and that's 80 miles! I need to go home again...I didn't get to shop this time!

I swear, I can not get in and out of Target for under a hundred bucks. I can go in there for lightbulbs and come out with new shoes and Snickers bars!

Just wanted to tell you all that they have some super cute shoes right now. I bought some little Mossimo mules - Kenneth Cole knock-off's, but cuter, if you ask me - that are black leather, have a 2" heel, and have this funky diagonal leather strip across the front with a wee little buckle on the side. Twenty-two bucks, baby! The Kenneth Cole ones don't even have the cute little buckle. I can't tell you how many people have asked me where I got them! Three girls in my office have them now, too! And what about the cute sweaters in that place right now?

Man, I love this place!

I too am a Target addict. I spend at least an hour in there each time I walk in, just looking for anything new and at what is now marked down. I am hoping we get a Super Target someday. Then I will never need to go to any other store. The closest Super Target for me is in Indianapolis, which is still a couple of hours away.

I am going to have to check those shoes out. I saw some nice black boots in there as well.

After reading all of these posts about the wonder that is Target----I'm begining to think that they must have some sort of gas in the store's air thats makes you spend money.

I was there 2 days ago---I went to buy those 10 frames in a box for $20---wound up spending $100. Urrggh....
