I was just reading in Elle an interesting article about perfumes and where women wear them. Apparently, just wearing a dab of liquid fragrance on your wrists or behind your ears is a fairly modern thing. Anyway, I'm going to ask a rather intrusive question- where do you wear your scent? I've never been a pulse point person, myself- I usually flip my hair over and spray it underneath, and then when my hair moves I catch a whiff of it. People who hug me always comment on how good I smell! Another thought- are you a "signature" scent person, or do you switch around a lot? I really like the idea of being known by my scent, but I get too bored and do tend to switch. My mother, however, wore the same perfume all my life- and I will always associate that smell with her. I remember once, when I was about 9, she was in the hospital, and when I missed her I would sniff her worn shirts. It was an immense comfort. IP: Logged |

I typically spray it on my chest. I don't know why, I just always have. I've read though that it's not good to spray it towards the top of your body...scent wafts upward and goes away faster the higher up you wear it. So I guess if you want your scent to stick with you for a LONG time, spray it on your feet! ![]() I wore Heaven from the Gap religiously for a while...it's kind of light, and within my budget. I hardly wear it anymore though. Once in a while, I spritz on Oceanus from the Body Shop because my boyfriend likes it. P.S. DOn't you think the word Spritz should be used more often? IP: Logged |

I like to wear fragrances and I like the idea of having a signature scent but I just can't seem to come up with one I can stick to for more than a season or two. Usually, about halfway through the bottle I get tired of it. I spray on my chest, usually. I like the hair idea though- I may start to try that. As for scent, I was really into CK1 while I was in college, but my boyfriend then was also really into it. We were both performing musicians on a serious budget so we could never afford to get our gig clothes dry cleaned. He NEVER did it, and he would sweat a lot, so he would just douse his shirts with CK1. ick. That cured me of that odor forever. Then I was enjoying Tommygirl, but that too got old. But then I fell in LOVE with Origins Ginger something or other and I still am sort of thinking that was good. Until a few months ago when I went into Tiffanys in NYC and smelled their new scent Sheer. Absolute love. But I couldn't really justify buying another bottle of perfume that I might use for a season or two then grow tired. So I bought it, justifying it by saying I would wear it for the first time on my wedding day (something blue, get it?) and then whenever I smelled it I would be reminded of that day. So it's sitting up in a pretty blue box waiting for March 16th to be opened and SPRITZed. * ** * * (That's me, spritzing) IP: Logged |

I've changed perfumes a few times in my lifetime. They've always been given to me by a family friend who has a real talent for perfumes (and lives in Paris... that helps). I don't know how she does it, but she seems to magically appear with a new and perfect perfume when I start to get bored with the old one (Ok, that doesn't happen that often, maybe once every 5 years or so). Unfortunately, that means I'm absolutely unable to choose a perfume on my own. I've been wearing "Lacoste for women" since her last visit in July. Before that, I was using "Eau de Givenchy", a soft flowery fragrance, but having worn it during most of my teens, I was ready for a more grown up smell. I also have Hermes' "Eau d'orange verte", which has a yummy citrusy smell, but it just doesn't last on me. I wear it during the summer when my other perfume would be too overpowering. By the way, I wear it on my chest and on my wrists (and sometimes I'll just spritz it in the air and pass through the mist if I want just a subtle smell). Since high school I have been a real purfume person. I also 'spritz' it in my hair as well as my neck and shirts. My signature scent in Dream by Gap. My ex told me recently that he will meet girls and they'll "smell like me" good or bad was not discussed?? Anywho...I have a cabinet in my bedroom (the one from Target that has two dwawers and little window pane doors)The purfumes currently in there are: Ck1, Eternity, Cool Water for Women, Lucky Brand, Banana Republic, Green Tea, Mango from Garden Botanica...to die for!!, Blue Gap, Pink Gap, Dream Gap, Polo Sport, and Oceana. Yes I am quite the collector. I love my perfumes what can I say

The only perfume I've ever worn is Estee Lauder Pleasures, for four years now. Sometimes (like now, when I'm nearing the end of my third bottle) I think about switching, but I like the idea of having a signature scent, and I really love how all my clothes, my coat, my robe, all smell vaguely of it. I usually do a spritz on my neck, then rub my wrists in it and rub my wrists behind my ears. Sometimes I spritz my tummy, too. Mmmm I love the way it smells.

I typically wear essential oils - patchouli (love, love, love - until someone told me I smelled like pot. ;p), amber (kinda too sweet for all the time), and an oil made by the Occult Shop in TO called Artemis oil. Yummy. Ambergris is good too, if you're looking to pick up - it's synthetic sperm wale sperm, highly aphrodsiatic... mmm.... IP: Logged |

I only wear perfume when I go out - doesn't seem appropriate for work for me. I switch between Obsession for Men in the winter and Tommy Girl in the summer. I like to do the spritz on the neck, and rub my wrists in that. For some reason though, Tommy Girl and my neck don't get along - end up with a red welt where I've spritzed so I don't spray the neck with it. I also have Vanilla fields from ages ago which I rarely use. When I was in college, I used to wear Colors by United Colors of Benneton. How long will a bottle last for you? --Vips. IP: Logged |

I wear Clinique Happy (and I have enough of it to make all of chicago smell Happy...darn Bonus Days) and Obsession, and then I have some other ones running around somewhere. I spray it on my tummy before I put on my clothes. I usually wear Happy on the days when I'm feeling low on energy cuz it seems to have some sort of energy producing something or another. One thing that always fascinates me about perfume are the bottles...I think some companies put more effort into the bottles than the actual scent. So I guess what I'm asking is what perfume bottles are most interesting to you? I've always loved the Jaul-Paul Gaulthier ones...so much fun! IP: Logged |

I have three scents that I alternate between. Clinique Happy, Michael by Michael Kors, and Gap Grass, which was discontinued but I found at the outlet store. Each of them conveys a different mood- Grass when I'm feeling low key, Happy when I want to feel energized, Michael for those more romantic occasions (cause this stuff was expensive!) I usually do that really girly move, where I spritz it into the air and step through it. I also do the hair thing. IP: Logged |

I am a perfume addict! I go through at least 3 bottles a year. I think it's because I lived in Germany for a while and my friends there would NEVER step foot outside without first spritzing with a delicious scent. Also, the fact that my sister lives next door to a Sephora does not help matters. My favorites are not terribly expensive and bonus(!) you can pick them up at any drugstore (well, most of them) or cheaply on the plane for all of you lucky travellers. I wear Hugo Boss for Women (not Woman by Hugo Boss--although I like that too), Noa, Clinique Happy, Cool Waters, Rush by Gucci, and my favorite has got to be DKNY Fragrance. At first I found it strong (it's definatly a winter perfume), but now I'm sooo addicted to it. All of my male friends ADORE it. I absolutely hate to reek of something, and I hate women (and men) who wear so much perfume that it chokes people standing within 10 feet. I put perfume on first thing in the morning before I get dressed. A light spritz on the back of my knees, chest, wrists (don't rub--it breaks the scent beads), and throat, in that order. That way, by the time I'm finished my boring morning rituals, the scent has had a chance to diffuse, but it's still there on every part of me. Wow, I just read this over and I am waaay too involved in perfuming my body. I think I'm going to make tomorrow a scent-free day. IP: Logged |

I don't wear perfume because it gives me a rash and cuts my breath in half (for choir, I mean.. perfume is banned at our rehearsals because it brings on so much asthmatic lovin' in various people.) But I have some tiny bottles of body shop vanilla and body shop mango perfume oil because I love how they smell so much. Mmm. I take them out and smell them now and then when I'm stressed out. Have never been really into perfume, but this christmas Boyfriend's mother got me Origin's Ginger whatever it is, and I love it. It is nice and fresh but not overpowering or old-woman smelling - usually I spray it on my neck and then in the hair over the 80 lbs of hairspray (it's short & spiky). Boyfriend says I smell like a stir-fry just starting when I wear it. Is that good or bad? IP: Logged |

I have a certain obsession with a few fragrances, and like many people on this subject, I wear different ones for different moods. Timeless scents that I adore and wear sometimes: Fun, light scents that I love: I guess I do have a signature scent that I wear almost everyday though. It is Angel by Thierry Mugler. I adore this perfume. It is pretty heavy, so I have to dab it on lightly, but I don't know anyone else who wears it in the US. However, when I was in Paris last summer, I smelled it on practically every woman I passed. I must admit, I am from the Coco Chanel school of perfume wearing which basically means that I wear more than I should, and NEVER go out without perfume. If I forget to put it on, I feel naked. If I am dabbing, I dab behind my ears, on my collarbone, and on my wrists. Very classic dabber. If spritzing, I do my neck and wrists. Growing up, my mother wore Opium. This has always been a favorite of mine because it reminds me of the times I would see my parents go out on the weekends--my mom in a gown and my dad in a tux and I thought it was so romantic and exotic. I love love love Dolce Vita - it is expensive perfume. I love that is has an Italian name, and smells rich and vanilla like with a mix of spicy spice smells. I have worn it straight for 5 years now - I can't bring myself to wear any other scent. WEll, sometime I wear Daphne demeter spritz stuff in the summer - when Dolce Vita is too strong. Daphne is my favorite flower, so I love smelling like it. Hmm, good topic - oh and I ussually spray it on my chest, than rub my wrists there and than dab my wrists on my neck. It is strong perfume so one spritz is good for the whole upper body.

quote: Figures. I bought my first bottle of Pleasures for an out of town prom in 1996, and I've been hooked ever since. I switched to Gucci Rush about a year ago because Shaps bought it for me, but when I ran out, I switched back to Pleasures. When I switched back, the scent brought memories back to me. It cracks me up that we wear the same perfume, KR. I might have known. I used to be a spritzaholic, but now I only spritz on my upper chest/lower neck area, and then I spritz once again over my clothes. That's usually just enough to notice, and not too much to take. I have been wearing this stuff called 'Bark" by a company called Elizabeth. I bought it at a local store..it has a nice fallish/winter scent to it, very light. I think the name is horrific, though. Their other scent "Wet Leaves' is nice too, but it's such a horrid name! I used to wear CK1 religiously. Not so much anymore. Coco Chanel and Chanel no. 5 occasionally. I used to love Chanel 22. Bijan I wear once in a while, but it's a little sweet. Gap 'Summer' is good and grapefruity for hot days. I want to get something new...perhaps something like 'Relaxing Frangrance" by Shiseido or 'Laundry' or 'Rain' by Demeter. Perhaps "Romance" by Ralph Lauren. I'm into lighter scents lately. I wore Liz Claiborne like a fiend in h.s., and Opium, of all things. I used to sell cosmetics at Marshall Field's and I had buddies in Women's Fragrance..I had samples of every perfume known to womankind. It was great. Here's a really weird thing...my cat is really tuned into perfumes. He loves some of mine and will try to lick me if I am laying on the sofa or something (gross!!). He hated this Shiseido sample I tried and would RUN out of the room if I sprayed it. What a weirdo. Has anyone else experienced this? Spray spots: neck and wrists. Sometimes midsection. IP: Logged |

For a long while in my teens, I wore Perspective by Garden Botanica. I grew out of that and into Happy by Clinique when I was about seventeen. About the same time, I started wearing Mariel from H2O+ occasionally. These days, I mostly wear Abercrombie and Fitch "8," and occasionally J'Adore from Christian Dior. Very random perfume wearer, I am. Lately I like anything warm smelling. I think it's the comfort factor. Oh, and I "spritz" on my chest, and let it get all acclimated while I blow my hair dry. On a side note, my boy, who has never worn a scent, asked me the other day to find him one. He says he wants me to find a smell that I love and will associate with him. Sounds like a tough job to me. Besides, I've gotten used to the Irish Spring-and-Bounce fabric softener thing he smells like now. IP: Logged |

I don't wear perfume much anymore, because I've noticed that I'm getting more and more sensitive to scented products. Anything heavily scented gives me a headache. But I have Estee Lauder Pleasures, L'eau d'Issey by Issey Miyake (my all-time fave), and Heaven from the Gap. If I wear it, I spritz into the air and walk through the mist, plus add a dab behind my ears. I also have tiny vials of Prescriptives Calyx (smells so spring-y and fresh!), which I'll dab behind my ears, in the hollow of my throat (or in my cleavage), and on my wrists. But, like I said, my perfume-wearing days are practically over. Damn it. IP: Logged |

Back in high school I wore Elysium by Clarins for a long time, then I wore Perspectives by Garden Botanika. I had Fuzzy Peach oil from the Body Shop, and for some reason guys used to love that. Recently I've worn Contradiction by Calvin Klien and DKNY's fragrance. Since I'm in a kitchen all day long, perfume doesn't go well with that so I wear it less often, but I have a perfume by Fresh that I got at Sephora that I love called Lucia/fleurs de chocolat that smells like choclate and oranges. Strange combo but it smells yummy, and my boy likes it. IP: Logged |

I wear Ellen Tracy. It was the only perfume that I tried on at the counter that didn't smell sour on me after a couple hours. AND-- It doesn't give me a headache, like most perfumes tend to do. I would love to be a signature scent kind of gal, but I haven't found a scent that is just perfect yet. Ellen Tracy smells kinda spicy... Not flowery. The smell I love on myself is Pearberry lotion from Bath & Bodyworks. I don't much like the body spray, though-- It smells different on my skin than the lotion. So, in the summer, I don' t wear perfume, just lotion. Lesliele P.S. Does anyone else have the problem of perfume smelling sour on them? Like, on the card it smells good, then when you spray it on, something goes horribly wrong. LOL IP: Logged |

i know what you mean about the souring smell. i recently had perfume sprayed on my wrist, and i bent down to pet my cat Smokey. He turned his head, smelled my wrist, then attacked me! He bit my wrist so hard it almost bled. I thought "what is wrong with that cat??" so i smelled my wrist, and my perfume had this funky sour/salty smell. so i never wear perfume on my wrists anymore. As for my scents, i wear one that is so light you practically have to wear half the bottle for anyone to be able to smell it. I love it though, because it smells like peach with just the tiniest hint of musk. That is my favorite perfume. I bought this huge bottle of it at Meijer for only $3.00. It is so me. Other than that the only one i have, but rarely use at all is a designer knockoff of Elizabeth Arden's Sunflowers. That stuff is strong though. IP: Logged |

Did anyone else ever hear of a quote (I'm pretty sure by Coco Chanel) that you should put your perfume on wherever you want/hope to be kissed? I always think of that when I put on my perfume. For the most part I stick with spraying on my chest and wrists, although I may have to try some of the other spots mentioned, since people have recently thought I stopped wearing it. I guess my perfume's wearing off too quickly. I even had to smell my wrist today to remember if I had put it on. I'm usually the type of person who wears a new perfume religiously for about a week, then forgets about it, but my mom bought me Tommy Girl for Christmas, and so far I haven't missed a day. It may be on its way to becoming my "signature scent". IP: Logged |

After I shower, and I'm still wet, I spray a little on my upper chest, neck area ..rub over my chest and neck, behind ears and rub my wrists over the area to get some of the scent..then dry off.. I find that my perfume lasts longer this way. Also, the rest of my body is lightly scented because it's on the towel while drying off. The rest of the day, I carry a very subtle scent. Try it IP: Logged |

In high school, I used to wear Lily Rubin. I think my mom got it for me as a birthday present one year, and I loved it so much. I got A LOT of compliments, and when people found out what it was, they were pretty surprised. I guess they thought Lily Rubin stuff would smell old-lady-ish or something. That was the first time I ever finished a bottle of perfume (I was so sad). I havn't gone back to get any more, probably because it reminds me of how poor I am (most of the dresses there cost more than my car). Now I use Coco Mademoiselle, its really light and pretty, and I do the under-the-hair thing too. I also spray it on my stomach. I don't know why I started doing that, but now I guess it's a habit. I kinda splurged on that one, but I guess I got that irrationality from my mom. (God bless her) IP: Logged |

It's like $70 at department stores and this one even came with soap and shower gel. It was unopened andd had never been used. I think it was on sale at Marshalls because the green frosted bottle had a white scratch on it. They had TONS of other kinds of perfume so I guess depending on what you wear, check out Marshalls (Ross and TXMaxx probably carry perfume too...) IP: Logged |
