Ahhh...I just saw this post! Sorry it's taken so long to reply! My skin care regime is pretty simple. I use Desert Essence tea tree oil facial cleanser in the morning (or whenever I wake up). I TRY to wash my face with it at night but I usually end up using the Ponds make up remover and cleanser towelettes (Target has a store brand that works just as well but it was actually a bit more expensive than the name brand!). And when I need to moisturize my face I just use a Suave moisturizer, nothing too fancy. When I get a zit I also us the Desert Essence blemish touch stick. I have tried a MILLION cleansing products over the years and I've yet to find anything that works better than tea tree oil. Everything else is just too harsh on my skin and will make me break out even more.

http://www.ponds.com/cleanserProd3.asp

Oh, for some reason on the Desert Essence website they don't show the cleanser I use. I would check out a health food store in your area for it (I get mine at Whole Foods).

i finally have what might be described as a skin-care regime -- and it's working, at least so far. this is what i use:

MORNING
**Neutrogena Visible Radiance AHA cleanser with microbeads (gentle exfoliation and cleansing. I really like this stuff)
**Clean and Clear roll-on zit stuff if necessary
**Neutrogena SPF 15 moisturizer
**Shiseido powder with SPF 15

also i've been taking 1 500mg evening primrose oil capsule with breakfast

NIGHT
**philisophy superwash for oily skin
**L'Oreal AHA/BHA toner
**philosophy hydrogen peroxide cream for zit prevention
**philosophy on a clear day salicylic acid acne zapper (GREAT stuff, esp. for huge, underground zits) if necessary
**biotique (indian herbal stuff) moisturizer for eyes and neck

WEEKLY

clay-based mask to clear pores and deal with oil. have many of these but queen helene's is my fave

-x-

the real challenge will be to see if i can keep up with this routine when i stumble home at 3am. so far i have but we'll see if it lasts...could be worth it for clear skin!

Can someone explain tea tree oil better - never heard of it before. What is it? How does it work? Where can I get it?

Thanks!

you can find it at health food stores, or at the body shop. they have a whole line of tea tree oil products (face wash, moisturizer, powder, etc) and they sell just the little vial of tea tree oil itself.

My SO bought the Suki's Naturals Mini Starter Kit for me. It's been doing alright. My skin is much MUCH softer and smoother, but it's taking a little while to clear up the pimples. My skin tone is even too. Overall I give it an 8 (on a 1-10 scale).

I do have to say that it seems that all the natural products are helping my face alot more. The Tea Tree Oil made my skin red blotchy and like burned stingy feeling. SO I'm never using that stuff again. I really really want to try the Bare Escentuals makeup, but I have no idea where they sell it here in Oklahoma City. I've tried searches, and it just doesnt work. I don't want to buy online because I don't know what color to buy.

The Bare Escentuals makeup rules. My MIL bought me some for my birthday, since I had been lusting after it and she loves it. Luckily, she got the color right.

My face has cleared up a lot since switching.

Nire- oh I bet. everytime I am flipping through the channels and I see a Bare Escentuals infomercial, I watch it and I lust over it. I want to get some soo bad. How do you think I could go about finding out where the sell it here in Okc, besides calling tons of salons in the phone book and asking? The thing that makes me want to try that makeup so bad is that it doenst clogs the pores and the whole Bare Minerals foundation. That just catches my eye.

tasha, i have really sensitive skin, and because i'm cheap, i use the cover girl sensitive skin kind (i think it's called "clean" or something...the package is green). it's unscented, and doesn't clog my pores. that might be a good quick fix until you can find the bare escentuals.

I ordered my Bare Escentuals from qvc, a sort of starter pack at a reduced rate. You can look into that, because I think if you are dissatisfied (or get the wrong shade) you can send it back.

Try their website, too- that will probably tell you where you can buy it. www.bareescentuals.com?

thanks ladies. I am going to check those sites after I do homework (whoever created that sucks really bad, I despise it). I just don't want to accidentally choose the wrong shade, and then have to deal with shipping it back and everything. But I really am excited to try it. I want to get a starter kit. Really I think all I want to try is the foundations and that other stuff taht makes the skin look totally flawless and blush. Thanks for the heads up.

Totally random tangent: I used to hate homework too...until I got a full-time soul-sucking office job. Now, I don't have homework to worry about...but I would gladly trade an evening of conjugating french verbs and reading for the 4 hours of filing I have to do at work today...

Just wanted to add: initially, the BareMinerals foundation is expensive. But it comes in a big container, and I've had mine for a month and a half and it's not even half gone. So really, you're paying for 3-4 months of makeup.

The blush and glimmers last forever too. And I like the brushes.

I agree- I've had one pot of the mineral foundation since before Christmas, and I probably still have another month left in it. So it does sound like a lot ($20+, don't remember exactly) but it lasts several months.

I have the foundation, mineral veil, and the concealer. I love the foundation, and the mineral veil is nice, but I don't see a huge difference between that and regular translucent powder (though I guess it is better for your skin?) The concealer stuff though, I wouldn't rush out and buy again. It is like very opaque powder that doesn't look incredibly natural if you really need to cover something up- if I have a blemish, I generally use liquid concealer under my foundation and that looks less noticeable.

my understanding is that nothing really shrinks pores. splashing with cold water may make pores appear smaller, but shrinking pores isn't really possible. on the other hand, using a pore refining mask and being diligent about cleansing helps pores from getting bigger.

and a good pore refining mask can help prevent break-outs.

queen helene's mint julep mask is fantastic, and you can't beat the price. i've tried a lot of masks, and i keep coming back to this one.

of course, it works best on oily or "blemished" skin. don't know if it's the best for super-sensitive or dry skin.

I love, love, love the B0dy Sh*p's Nut butter - just the plain one. But, I have such a hard time justifying $16 for a tub of it. I was looking at the ingredients and it seems to be mostly shea and cocoa butter. Do you think I could mix up my own for less? I was looking at cocoa butters like P@lmers, but they all have mineral oil and lots of preservatives. Any ideas to making a perfect beauty product for less?

I have really, really red skin around my nose - along the line it makes in your cheek when you smile really big, you know what I mean? I believe in my face exercise book, they call it the "moustache line" - lovely. Anyway, I have almost a triangle of really red skin in that area, and maybe I'm being paranoid but I really think sometimes it stands out and looks gross -- can anyone recommend something to even out skin tone? I'm pretty pale otherwise, and I have gigantically gross pores so I avoid putting anything thick or even slightly greasy on my face if I can avoid it.

Hiya gang My latest skincare love is Origins' Modern Friction, supposed to be "nature's answer to microdermabrasion". I've never had microdermabrasion to compare, but I do know my skin hasn't looked this good in 10 years, and this far surpasses the results of a normal face scrub.Others even noticed a difference in my complexion, asking what new makeup I was wearing.

That said, it's spendy, and never would have thought I'd spend $35 on a face scrub. I got to try a sample though, and I'm hooked and went right back to buy it.

To answer some ?'s from above, Ulta in OKC should carrry the Bare Essensuals makeup-the ones in Tulsa do. I believe the OKC one is in Quail Springs. As for a replacement for Nut Body Butter, I'd suggest experimenting with food grade cocoa butter...or, wait for the body butter sale that starts on the 17th of March (2/$26)

No ideas for you on making beauty products, but will say that good quality shea butter is expensive but totally worth it. I used to get awfully dry, cracked, painful skin during winter, on my hands and face and shea butter is the first thing I found that takes care of it. I usually get a tin of pure sb, and maybe a tube of a sheabutter blend hand cream [pre de provence and l'occitance en provence are two good companies]--winds up being nearly $30 for the two, depending on what sizes I get, but just those two items always last me through the winter and usually longer. Totally worth the cost.

i too love shea butter. here in east africa, a cool sudanese company sells lovely, perfumed shea butter (inexpensive too!) that's harvested by a woman's cooperative. right now i use the lavender-scented tin.

I have found this facial soap that is absolutely wonderful...D-H-C (without the dashes) mild soap. It's got olive oil in it so it makes my skin soft, too.

I was turned on to it by my cousin--we both have sensitive and dry but acne-prone skin, and it works great for her, too. I started using it a couple of months before I got pregnant, and instantly saw an improvement. Even now, with the raging hormones, I still have soft and almost zit-free skin.

For the record, prior to this discovery I was using Cetaph!l, which was recommended by my dermatologist and helped with the sensitivity and dryness but not the zits. Now I've hit the trifecta!

PinkB - Do you really think that microabrasion stuff works better then other scrubs. I had a "sample" done on my hand and I can't really tell the difference, but the claim is really appealing. I have also been looking at an equally priced papaya mask by Zia, which I did have a week sample of and it felt and smelled great.
I have really uneven skin tone, tanned, but with darker marks from old zits and such.

And YEA for the bodyshop sale. I will hold out for that!

So have been using ProActiv (again) for about three days now, and it's helping my skin tremendously. But I still have my acne scars. I mean my skin is going to look all smooth and blemish free, but then the dang purple-red acne scars are going to be showing through. It's kind of a disappointment. SO, my question is, Is there anything that fades them or even takes them away?

One of my best friends has a problem with that- she gets electrolysis and gets dark red/purple scar-like marks from it on her chin. She is very self conscious about it, and has tried just about everything- the thing I think she has liked the best was a pen from Clinique (I think) that has some sort of subtle bleaching agent in it.

I had acne scars when I was in my early twenties and eventually they just faded on their own as I got older. I was really impatient about it but was so happy to see how much my skin improved over time. Just keep your hands off your face and be patient. There is nothing worse than to keep picking at them.

I have a few favorite beauty products. I use Frizz-Ease by John Frieda on my curly hair and it does wonders. I worship Cetaphil and love the Dove Essentials moisturizer. I have also gotten hooked on Oil of Olay's Quench body moisturizer - it has really helped my winter dry skin. In the summer I use Neutrogena body oil after a long day at the beach, where I am covered in sunblock because of my easily burning skin. When I find a product I like I am pretty loyal to it.

Heatherina, is there any way you could find out exactly what it's called. I keep trying to just cover them up with concealer, but they show through. The worst part is, I never picked or popped those zits that left scars. They were those really deep, under the skin, cystic zits that lasts like 2 months (blah). I know that eventually overtime they will probably fade on their own (it may take years though), but I really don't want to wait that long. Plus I figure if I can help the process of them fading, it's worth it.

I don't have the budget for this, or even wil lbe able to get it anytime soon, but does mocrodermabrasion help fade scars? I've heard that in order to really see improvement in your skin that you have to go several times. I also hear the ads, and watch the commercials and reviews on it, but they always just mention the improvement in wrinkles, lines, and age spots.

They have so many over the counter (and much) cheaper microdermabrasion/acid peels now. I just got the one by Neutrogena. You are supposed to use it twice a week and I have been insanely busy lately, so I am lucky if I get to it once a week. But starting in 2 weeks, my life will really calm down and I'll be on top of it. So I can't say yet how well it works, but every review I read said it works wonders - not as good as the pricey doc visits, but good enough. This might be a budget friendly option for you. I think Loreal has a kit too that is supposed to be good.

The new Nivea face masks are just the best. They come in individual packages for about €1.50 each. There are 3 types, mosturising, purifying and pampering. Ive tried the purifying and pampering. Both work fab and dont leave my skin feeling all dry and itchy and I looove the smell of the pampering one. For my lips Carmex is always a hands down winner I just wish it came with SPF in it.

I don't remember exactly, but I think around $25. It's a small container with a gooy-gel like lotion. You put a thin layer on your clean face and wait (I forget the specific amount of time, maybe 10 minutes). I do this before I go in the shower. Then, after the directed amount of time, you are supposed to massage the stuff into your skin with a little water to help it exfoliate. So, I get in the shower and run my hand under water and then massage it in (having to wet my hand a few times in the process). Then I wash it off. You should start with once a week and then get to 2 times a week.
