veg out! 10 tips for going vegetarian

9. Save time.
Buy precut veggies to dip, munch, and stir-fry; stock up on containers of ready-to-eat fresh fruit. Natural foods stores stock a variety of instant soups, meals, and frozen entrees. Supermarkets also carry many convenient vegetarian foods. Canned soups, such as minestrone, black bean, or vegetable, are usually vegetarian (but just to be safe: check the label for things like beef stock). Flavored rice mixes can be made into a meal with a can of beans, or try vegetarian baked beans, sloppy joe sauce, and meatless pasta sauce.

10. Be healthy.
By far the most important tip. If you have switched to a vegetarian diet but find yourself tired and hungry or irritable, you may not be eating enough. Some people who switch quickly haven’t had time to figure out what they can eat. They end up eating only a few different foods, and they don’t get enough calories or nutrients. Finally, remember that vegetarian diets are usually high in fiber, so it’s important to take in adequate calories to meet energy needs and make sure you drink lots of fluids to move it through!
