how to make a record bowl and record album box

record album box
After you've turned your record into a funky bowl, make use of the cover by turning into a kitschy cool storage or gift box…

what you'll need |

  • record album cover
  • ruler
  • utility knife
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • glue
  • clothespins
  • clear packing tape
1 Pry apart the record album cover, then use your utility knife to separate the back from the front. If there are extra spine bits that stick out, trim them away so you have two nice, neat, more-or-less square pieces of board of equal size.

2
Use the packing tape to make a clear border around all the edges; this will keep the edges nice and smooth. You'll find it's easier to keep the tape that shows on the printed side neat and flat if you stick the tape down on the printed side first, and keep the border to about ¼". You'll probably get some bubbles when you fold back the excess tape on the back side of the board, but as this will be the inside of the box, there's no point in stressing too much about it.
3 Take the front cover and place it face down on the table. Draw four straight lines, each H" in from each edge of the cover, where H is whatever height you'd like your finished box to be.
