FACELift
Fiasco,
a
cautionary tale in two parts:
PART II |

Step
six: Re-unification.
Many, many hours after
I’d began this little furniture facelift, I was finally at the stage
where I had my two cushions decked out in new spiffy red clothes, and my
wooden chair frame sporting a lovely golden-red sheen. The final step:
putting it all back together again.
On went
the bottom cushion – because I’d covered over the old screw
holes in the process of re- upholstering, though, |
|
I had to
first look for the holes by poking around the edges of the
cushion with a pin. Having located the holes, and properly
positioned the cushion in alignment with the screw holes on the
wooden frame, I screwed the bottom cushion into place. The top
cushion slid back into the metal runners on the wooden frame and
voilà – the transformation was now complete. |
Miraculously enough, despite
the fact that I’m quite certain I made every mistake possible in the
re-finishing and re-upholstering
process, the chair still looks about a thousand times better than it did
before. It’s not perfect, not by a long shot, but it’s a very big
improvement indeed. Whereas before, the chair was such an eyesore that
my boyfriend and I had a tendency to keep as much stuff stacked on top
of it as possible – an attempt to hide its utter hideousness to the
maximum extent – this new, pretty, red incarnation of the chair
actually looks welcoming enough that, as my boyfriend commented,
"Wow, I actually want to sit on it now." Not me,
though -- I'm too happy looking at my handiwork.
