9 good reasons to throw a party by Yee-Fan Sun |
1 2 3
continued from page 2

7 Bon voyage! Of course, there's no reason you have to be heading off somewhere permanently to host a party in honor of your adventures in new places. Maybe you're finally taking that trip to France you've been dreaming of since you were a kid, or heading off on six-month round-the-world adventure with your oldest bestest friend. Or perhaps you've just returned home, having spent three months in the Amazon rainforest doing research for your dissertation, or a couple of weeks roadtripping solo through the dusty cowboy towns and desert of the Southwest. Share the fun and excitement of seeing new corners of the world and host a themed party based on your travels.

8 Ring in the new. Baby showers and weddings are the traditional parties celebrating those scary-exciting new phases of life. But there's more to life than kids and marriage, and other big leaps we might find ourselves facing throughout these quasi-adult years - whether it's new jobs and career shifts, or making the jump back into the student life by going back to get your master's or doctorate. Starting something new is always a little nerve-wracking. Get yourself geared up for the upcoming changes with a great big party -- and begin this next stage of your life with a bang.

9 Mission accomplished. Maybe you've completed a big work project, or passed a major exam; you've finally finished your dissertation, or just survived your first year of grad school. With the burdens of work and school lifted off your shoulders -- for the time being at least -- it's time to kick back. Parties are an excellent way to reward yourself for a job well done -- and to remind your friends you haven't totally disappeared into a black hole, despite the fact that you've been buried in work for ages. As the saying goes: work hard, play hard. So have some fun -- you deserve it.

Of course, the only real reason to throw a party is just because you can. Life's it's own reason for celebrating. So quit hemming and hawing over what's a good excuse to have a few folks over to your pad -- pick a date already and get the word out!
